cr500af timbersled build

Post by AlpineSky »

Here is my first cr500 timbersled build. Bike is a 2007 cr250r with a 2001 motor. I traded for it partially finished over a year ago and have finally got all the parts and most importantly the timbersled kit. Since I have had it I have had the exhaust mounts welded and new outlaw radiators modded. It cane from a credible source and the compression feels good so I am not going to do a motor break down until the off season. I totally dissassembled the bike prior to starting to clean. I have the motor in and torqued with nord locks. Made custom bushings to get the timbersled skid to line up with drive sproket. Rebuilt fork bushings and seals and new .54kg springs with 20wt. oil. BRP riser and 1 1/8 bar adapter with protaper fmx bars and vibranator bar ends with fastway series 2 guards. Lets see if the pics work?

So far I have had to mod every single part of this build. I read a lot of fourms about doing the cr250 stator flyeherl and cdi to the cr500 and almost everythread I found said it was a direct swap. Not true. The back of the stator plate on the cr500 stator has a recess for the case collar. The stator needs this to be centered on the crankshaft. The 2001 cr250 (and other years probably too) stator plate has a different case mating configuation with a different recess on the back. With some research, I found that the cr125 stator plate has the recess and the other config. so it will work. The main thing to watch for is you need to match the year/gen of the motor so the coil can attach to the plate in the same fashion. I ended up buying a used 2001 cr125 stator and stripped it to the plate. Then I transfered over the 250 coil and pickup sodering and shrinking the wires cut. I only have timing plate 1 so we will see how it runs. The mark is just to the left of the timing arrow on the case.

Even if you machined the center out the recess it has is too large in diameter.
