Before I get started I want to thank Adam for this site as well as all his tech info he has helped us with..
Ok, so Jason from JT Engine works and I are building a couple of Kart engines. One has a very short build time so we are doing what we can but we really don't have the time to do what we really want to use.
Plus the customer already bought some Hot Rods kits for the rebuilds. Definitely not my first choice but we will use what we have.
Here is what we are starting with.
I know that some guys don't care if their engine is clean or not but we will steam clean this before we ever crack open the cases

More prep
Prepped and ready to lap with some Timesaver.. Love this stuff..

Started lapping. You can see where the dark area's are on the mating surface.. And you can see the light spots... Dark is making contact, the light isn't doing anything... Yet...
Now look... The mating surface is all dark... Nice

Polished the ID of the Exhaust flange
Clutch basket is junk... But it's all we have..
It's a little better now.. File, file, file...

I can't get a replacement head in time so here ya go..
Jason is a porting machine.... Now, if he makes it faster that will be a bonus..

The question we want to know is will it go or will it blow

Well... The top end is torched... Disassembled and found a plugged pilot jet
I know I know, that's racing... But I don't have to like it.
So, rebuilding the top end. The next race is in two weeks...

Yesterday we received a 91mm CR500 Wiseco piston.
I took the cylinder and piston to the machinist and told him the specs I wanted it bored to. I should have it early next week.
We will be getting the Kart this time so we can tune it and break it in over a few days.
I can't wait....

Race results.
1st heat placed 1st.
Second heat placed 4th.
Main was in second but spun out. Had to start over from the rear of the pack, ended up placing 3rd but was DQ'd due to a early restart that everyone says was bunk.
Oh well, that's racing.
Overall I'm not dissatisfied with the results especially considering that we have a lingering lean issue.
We think we know the cause but will get it resolved next week.
We do have two weeks before the next race so I'm certain we can get this figured out.
Special thanks goes to Adam Millar for his technical support.
Without Adam's help I'm sure we would have finished at the back of the pack....

We were really excited for Friday night.
Jason and I spent a full day tuning...
It is running awesome.
So Casey (The driver) goes out and takes his practice laps.
He is all over the place and goes off the track twice.
The last time he went off the track he caught some air.
When he came into the pits he was really excited.
He raved about the engine and how good it ran.
So, the owner (Chris) was changing the chassis around to dial it in for the track conditions and discovered a big crack in the frame right under the drivers seat.
Done for the night...
That's racing...
But, there is another race next Friday

We have been running at Cottage Grove Oregon.
But I believe the next race is in Lebanon Oregon in about 3 weeks.
Results last night...
1st heat placed 2nd
Finished 5th in the second heat and discovered a bad fuel leak.. No smoking please.
In the mains, started 8th... ran up to 5th and the pipe snapped in half. We knew the pipe was running on borrowed time... It just stinks that we couldn't finish the race.
The Kart is running good.
We seemed to be on par power wise with all the leaders.
I can't wait to see how our new build does considering that Adam is whittling us up a new head
