I have a 1989 cr500 that has rounded gear dogs and a broken right side crankcase. I heard somewhere that I can buy a brand new 2001 cr500 right side crankcase and it will work with the 1989 left side crankcase and transmission but i'm not sure if that was true. Also for the transmission would a 1993-2001 transmission work in the 1989 engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I think the cases are all gone, but I could be wrong if you could get one yes I believe it would work other than the lack of black paint on it. all the motors are interchangeable from top to bottom ends from 1989 up. The 1989 and 1990 I think used one less clutch plate and the 1993 and up went with a wider ratio tranny. My years and everything may not be perfect...check Roosty's Sky drive deal, he lays it all out.

I think the cases are still available and they come with all the bearings already installed

Not 100% sure but I think on the lefts you have to call and give a vin number off your original case
