Service Honda Ignition (I give up!)

Post by Jeff4510 »

Hi guys, so after two years into this build (see my other thread somewhere) I cannot get the bike to run or start correctly.

It had such a nasty kick back it broke two cases. I have done everything with the jetting from lean to rich and it simply will not start or run correctly except WOT.
I even took it to my local Honda dealer to check the timing and he got scared of it (he has a cr500) when it kicked back on him.

I have officially given up on the service Honda ignition and am looking for a complete stock ignition and going to add a lighting coil to it .

I've heard a cr250 CDI/ FLYWHEEL etc bolts on and apparently might even run better?

Does anyone know which years cr250 bolt on? thanks much!

97 Has carb circuitry that needs some mods 1st. 92-96 are direct bolt on. 00-01 are digital and are sought after. I have a 96 in mine and it runs great.
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

I had very similar issues with my service honda ignition and the vortex ignition. The vortex by itself works quite nicely but the stators are garbage. Stay away.
