what does it take to swap 2000 18" rear to 2003 AF?

Post by aedavis »

I know this has been discussed, and maybe I'm just lousy at searching, but I don't understand what's needed to do the following.

My situation - I have two CR500s, a 2000 CR500R and a 2003 CR500AF. I have an extra 18" rear wheel for the 2000; I want to be able to use this 18" assembly for the 2003 AF for offroading, and keep the 19" rear assembly for a paddle. I plan to sell the 2000 CR, by the way, so I don't care about having a spare wheel for it.

1. I know the 2000 wheel has small bearings; is there a seal/bearing kit I can buy to make this work?

2. What about the brake rotor?

3. Would it be simpler to just find a 19" rear wheel off a 2002-2012 CR? I'm not too concerned about 18" vs 19" for the riding I do.

Thanks,

Allan

the 2000-01 wheels are large axle and large brake rotor bolt. you must have a 1997-99 wheel there.

it can be done, I had my '89 wheel on my 01 AF,
if I recall correctly, you need to use the smaller diameter axle, make up some bushings to go into the swing arm for the different axle and the adjuster blocks need to be for the smaller axle.
Gen 2 AF, yes it's a SH, so I can call it an AF Damm it!
