CR500 topend on FL400 Pilot

Post by Kuma »

Here is another 500 top end on a Honda Pilot, he had a problem with the piston breaking between the ring grooves on the intake side. here is the link to the pilot forum, I noted that the oil holes were not drilled for the exhaust bridge, would that have caused the failure?

I've seen that. Not that its a bridge deal for sure because I've seen it even on a bridgeless one but the top of the boost port will be higher at the outer edges than the center and not have much chamfer. A little snuggle up of that ring end gap never helps but it'll snag the ring land on the port edge and bust it out exactly like pictured.

I noticed that it didn't look like it had much if any camphor on the ports, is that what you are saying?

the boost port has been "ported" with a sanding roll and its left an M shape to it.
