Air box question

Post by jbird_710 »

Would a CRF-X air box fit into a CRF-R subframe? In other words, are the subframes for a CRF-X and a CRF-R different so you couldn't put an X air box in a R subframe?

250f? I think guys were changing just the airbox in 05-06 models and got back to 04 style which was single muffler, not dual.

Thanks for the info. Not sure how different they are, but I was wondering about the 450F for my application. I have a 2002 CRF450R conversion and will have a '08 CRF450R frame for my next conversion. Not what the first year of the 450X was?

The 2004-05 crf-r and 2004-09 crf-x model subframes are the same frame with different mounts for the plastics, airbox and radiator catch tank. The crf450-r and x model subframes are very different. you have 2002-04 crf450 subframes, 2005-08 crf450 subframes, 2009-12 crf450 subframes and the 2004-12 crf450 x subframes.

What would you be trying to accomplish by using an r subframe with an x-airbox ? The r airbox seems to be the preferred way to go, x-model is nice to have but harder to fit the airboot to for the conversion. lots of choices out there !

The thought process was to use a CRF-X airbox for the ease of filter service. I've got a 2008 CRF-R frame being modified and was thinking about using a X airbox, but didn't know if it would be possible to stick an X air box in a R subframe without modification.
