Another KTM CR500 conversion

Post by Iceman »

No pictures yet. So I placed a ad looking for blown up KTM's (I was looking for winter project)
Within a couple of weeks I acquired a KTM 250 XCW rolling chassis, no engine.
2 days later I came across a 1990 CR500 engine.
Now the fun begins.
I decided that I want to build a newer looking KTM with a CR500 engine.
Items ordered within the last 2 days
-FMF fatty & silencer
-Boyesen rad valve
-41mm Keihin Carb
-2013 KTM Black plastic kit (Found a 2013 250 SX tank locally "cheap")

Tore down the topend tonight and it has a Gen 5 wiseco 89.5mm piston and looks like the ports have been cleaned up a little (nothing changed)

I will be sending the jug off for porting this week.
Question - what brand of piston is everyone using these days? I was thinking of using a Vertex (I have no issue with these pistons in my KTM's)

I'm getting Graphics built for this bike, not sure what to call this thing
KTM 500 R
KTM 500 SX
KTM 500 SX-R

Currently looking for a set of radiators.
Frame conversion wont start for a couple week.
2002 CR500 AFC
FMF fatty, V-force, 39PWK, Dyno Port engine, EGT

my ktm has the 4 stroke rads and I am going to switch to 09 to 13 300 2 stroke supercools from mylers in Utah , think it will simplify the hose routing a lot , they are $260 a set, the kawi and the cr have nearly identical hose locations except the cr head outlets will be easier...
