I am new to the site and getting ready to pick up a 04 crf450 for a 500af project.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good bike to convert? Is this a gen3? I am tall 6'3" 225lb.

What is a good price to get the welds done, I looked at the mps welds and they looked horrible. I read the preferable motor is a 91 and up 500, is that correct?

Thanks!

93 and up are the wide ratio transmission which some people think is better but it all depends on what you ride. Give some more info on what you ride and what your looking for and people can help more. I would look for a 02 - 07 cr250 to convert they are a great base for a AF.

I race local hs and some gncc's pretty consistently, I am on my second ktm 300 that I really like. I always wanted a 500af and it will mostly be a play bike with potentially some mx and hs, I think its too much in the woods and would need a decompression valve and flywheel weight to say the least. I am getting ready to pick up a friends 04 450 so that would be my starting plateform. I just want to make sure I do it right, I read the 15 pages on vitalmx concerning issues with mps and the one thing I dont want are welds that look like that for any amount of money, cosmetic or not it doesnt look good to me, thanks!

Hey bud. Im doing a 2006 crf250r conversion. Welding cost me just under 300.00 I used The kit Daryl sells it works great. The welding was done by a welding shop they do all types of welding and a very good. So id think 300.00 would be a fare price considering the consequences of a poor weld job.
