99 CR500 with what was told to me was a slight bore. I've heard a MILLION HEATED debates over pre-mix. I've ran Golden Spectro Pre-mix for years without failure, but am looking into making a switch. Even considering Royal Purple. Does anyone have anything TANGIBLE to reinforce a Pre-mix selection?

As far as case oil, I have always used Honda Pro-line. Thinking Royal Purle again. Mechanics simple rave about it, but they don't ride CR500R AF's 2 hours @ a time in TX heat through the woods.

Pre-mix oil. Yep. You need to use some.


Pick one. Use directions on the bottle. Tune for that. Stick with it. You'll be alright.

Actually, I seem to recall a very technical document that extolled the virtues of castor bean oil and 927.

Maxima 927 and Rotella T6.

I like Klotz Super Techniplate. Ran it in every dirt bike I have owned. Only ever had one problem, which was my fault. Definitely wasnt a lubrication issue

you have something that works, why change?

The only thing I can say here that I think most people would actually agree with is avoid cheap oils, and stick with a product meant for these types of motors. Chainsaw/weedwhacker oil is probably not the best option.

The main reason I run Klotz exclusively is the smell. I know there are 50 other oils that will protect my engine just as well, but you just cant beat that sweet scent of Klotz

I do like the klotz smell.
A family member had some strawberry scented ipone, and it was great stuff!

I use Klotz Techniplate most of the time.
I bought a gallon of Klotz BeNol last year and have run it sometimes.
It does smell good, sorta like the Blendzall I used to use back in the day.
Now, combine that with race gas and you have a nice perfume for riding!
Unfortunately, I have to take a shower as soon as I get through riding, it tends to make me nauseas because it's all over me.
My buddy uses Amsoil and to be honest, it smells pretty good too.
The smell is not why I use it though, it's for the qualities of a castor oil.

Í had lunch with Lake Speed JR of Joe Gibbs Racing Oil a few weeks ago. His dad races vintage 2 stroke Karts so Lake is currently working on a two stroke synthetic oil that will work as well as the castor oil he loves now. The product name has recently changed from Joe Gibbs Racing Oil to "Driven".

That sounds interesting. It's funny how different products are prominent & availability is catered to the rider from dealers in different regions. I haven't heard of several of these products.

gibbs is everywhere, started in the dirt stock cars, then nascar, then oil, then MX if thats who you didnt recognize.

Klutz benoil is my fav in my big bore 250r and I plan to use in the 500 when I finally start running it. I run a 40:1 so it's not as smokey. Smells so good with race gas or premium
