Finally took the top off my '82 CR480 to inspect.
The bore is good at std.
Ring end gap is waaaay out of spec, blowby on both sides of the pin.
Piston looks good but will be replaced as a precaution anyway.

Is this the stock piston anybody?
How the hell do these clips come out?
I mean there's no tang, no recess.
My only idea is with some sort of pick.

you can struggle for hours, or drill a notch by the clip like on a normal piston

That's a good idea.
Is this an oem from back then?
I seem to remember dealing with this sometime in the past, maybe my ATC250R, I can't remember.

Got it. Sum bitch :x
Drilled at a slight angle to come up just a little short of the clip and then drilled under it.
Used a pick to get it out after that.
Said all the cuss words I know and maybe made some new ones up.
Under the piston is says 43 on the left side and "W" on the right?

The "W" is wiseco & if you notice how the sides of the piston arent machined as well as the circlip removal spot, I'd bet it is a early 2000's piston from when wiseco tried to cheap out & cut a bunch of corners

That's definitely a Wiseco, can't believe it though. Never seen such stupidity. Perhaps this is where the "seizeco" term originated.

I just seen today that Phil Denton Racing has made a new batch of rods for these motors if you need one.

SWEET!!!:)
I was originally worried about it but I think the rod is good.
I might pick one up though since they're so hard to find.
