Ricky Stator

Post by tbr3 »

Hi Guys,
I recently purchased an 87 CR500 and I am doing some work on it, she will not kick start but runs well when pull started, I have re-jetted for my altitude and added a Hot Wire coil, but still no luck kicking.. I picked up a new Ricky Stator ignition stator that they claim is the correct application for this bike, but it is not even close-the mount holes are off by 1/2 inch.. I believe the clearance is critical on the mount on this? Has anyone tried one of these or do you know of anyone making a stator that will fit? I think I got screwed on this stator, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys,

Tom

Pull starting but not kick starting is usually a sign of low compression.

My 87 was a pain in the ass to kick start until I foung her G spot. Mine had to be one click past TDC and then kick it like you want to break it. Enjoy your new bike when you figure it out.
