2002 7.3 Excursion

Would anyone hesitate buying a 2002 Excursion with the 7.3 and 170,000 miles on it?

Is it bone stock? Limited 4x4? Service records?

Hell no! If it runs good and has been maintained, it will easily run for double that.

Key word: maintained.

I have ~150k on mine. Did all the work, less the transmission myself. Parts and go-fast goodies are habit forming. ;) I hope to break 500k on my 7.3.

It looks really nice and was a corporate vehicle and they have a carfax that looks really good.

Looks clean from the pics...

If you go look at it again, check the distance between the bump stop on the front springs and the frame. The front springs are notoriously soft and prone to sag, causing all sorts of ride issues. If there is 1" of clearance, then they sag, and some bargaining room for you there. I swapped stock F250 suspension on mine and it rode day and night better. Look at the bell housing and check for drips. As it is more than likely an o-ring from the fuel system in the valley - they are prone to leak b/c of ULSD. Look into the engine valley - is it dirty? Wet?

We have one of each of the fords, and a duramax...the 7.3 although a little noisier than the other 2 ford motors is hands down my favorite. Ours has been really good to us and has to carry a crane body around. You will love it if it's for you, if it's for the wife driving that big of a boat may not be her thing.

Sorry to hijack Hellbear but the 7.3 is the way to go correct. Im looking at getting a super duty and dont want a lemon. I heard some years and engines are prone to issues.

Can't go wrong with a well maintained 7.3.
My daily driver is pushing 500 horse, and I flog it worse than a borrowed CR500. I sold my last one with 300,000 miles and it's still going hard with almost 400 on it.
I just picked up one with 70k miles on it. Should last me into retirement.

That thing LOOKS clean as can be. If it runs as good as it looks, I would take it away. Looks like it mostly has HWY miles, based on the corporate thing you mentioned

Sucks.

It was the same way when I was looking for mine. I just called around till I found it. Traded wife's Sequoia for it in 2008. Good thing about Toyota - they hold their value.
