Hey guys most of the way through this build already, built using a 2001 cr250r frame and a 1986 cr500r engine. Picked up the 500 cause the previous owner could not start it, cleaned out the carb, fresh gas, right up. The cr250 frame i got cheap due to a blown engine. Pics coming soon[/img]

No lol thats a huge fail, if he has that much trouble trying to start it I think his calling is on an 85 not a 500

All of it mate. We love these build threads ! I am about to do a Gen 2 to go with my Gen 4, and am very interested in the differences in the build etc. (actually contemplating slipping a KTM 380 2T into it, if I can't find another 500 engine at the right price . . . )

you used a 250 pipe? Did it fit in the cylinder? And you need the newer style kicker too.

ya... it was what came with the 250 and at the time I didnt have the money for a proper 500 one, which in the frame one should work best? lol had to do a little cutting and welding of the flanges

what year kicker will fit?

also dropped the clip one and now it smokes a lot off idle, put it back to third from the top?

I used the 2001 stock airbox and boot and it worked for me.

your motor has a 1987+ rod in it, hence the deck spacer

Hey guys, Canadian winter finally let up enough to work on the bike again. I am at the final fitment and jetting stage but need some advice. I am having a lot of trouble getting the airboot to fit properly without it ripping out the front air boot. I could not get it to work at all with the 2001 airbox/boot so I am trying the newer gen 3 ones and this is how it fits. Is it good like that or do I just go to a pod filter with a pre filter over it.
