Redbull500's Gen. 2 Cr500 with 86 engine
Hey guys most of the way through this build already, built using a 2001 cr250r frame and a 1986 cr500r engine. Picked up the 500 cause the previous owner could not start it, cleaned out the carb, fresh gas, right up. The cr250 frame i got cheap due to a blown engine. Pics coming soon[/img]
Is this the guy you bought the motor from http://bannedcr500riders.com/board/view ... hp?t=12986
It's pretty important to kick it through the next TDC, looks like this guy never did

All of it mate. We love these build threads ! I am about to do a Gen 2 to go with my Gen 4, and am very interested in the differences in the build etc. (actually contemplating slipping a KTM 380 2T into it, if I can't find another 500 engine at the right price . . . )Redbull500 wrote:Hey guys I am most of the way done this build and wanted to know what specific areas of the gen 2 build interests you guys and ill try to post up pics and a description of what I did

cylinder was messed with a bit
cdi location... its tight
bottom engine mount
front mounts was the only welding needed
its pretty ugly riging right now, but it works, going to work on better routing of everything this winter
kicker hitting pipe issue
coil mounted to back brake resevoir holder for now
spacer used under the front of the gas tank to prevent having to push in the bottom of the tank
The beer behind the bike
rear sunstar steel sprocket 49, pro taper gold mx PT520mx chain, new scorpion MX extrax 120/90-19 back tire
Do your radiator shrouds still bolt up at the bottom?
Yah, I'm from Saskatchetoon!

here is the keihin pwk 39.5mm carb
ya... it was what came with the 250 and at the time I didnt have the money for a proper 500 one, which in the frame one should work best? lol had to do a little cutting and welding of the flanges
what year kicker will fit?
also dropped the clip one and now it smokes a lot off idle, put it back to third from the top?

I used the 2001 stock airbox and boot and it worked for me.

The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

your motor has a 1987+ rod in it, hence the deck spacer

Hey guys, Canadian winter finally let up enough to work on the bike again. I am at the final fitment and jetting stage but need some advice. I am having a lot of trouble getting the airboot to fit properly without it ripping out the front air boot. I could not get it to work at all with the 2001 airbox/boot so I am trying the newer gen 3 ones and this is how it fits. Is it good like that or do I just go to a pod filter with a pre filter over it.
