Okay, who can tell me what I need to do for my crank? I got tons of up and down and side play, basically rod bearing is shot... Now for the issue of finding a rebuild kit for the crank/rod. I think '85 and '86 are same as '84, but where can I get the parts for the rebuild, or a new/good replacment crank/rod? Please help!!!

If you have to pay someone to press the rod on it is not that much more to purchase a complete crank ass. from hot rod. I figured it saved me about $50 buying the complete package.

Hey roostie, glad you chimed in. What are your thoughts? Does Hot Rods make kits for the '84s? Or is that what you meant by OEM, I need to try to find an original?

Sorry about the HOT Rod suggestion I checked their page and they do not sell it for the 84, only 87 and up is offered.

No, your changing the rod length, not the crank throw.

You are right Bob, not adding to crank throw.
I am a little strapped for cash at the moment, got 5 bills goin out for a couple of parts bikes I found over in Oregon.
Trust me, when I catch back up I will surely be orderin' several mo'!

Gotta love craigslist! Found a bike over in Oregon with a bad piston complete, another full bike minus seat and plastic with a yamaha 300 engine, a husky front rim with caliper and forks, a brand spankin new paddle tire all for 300 bux, well that plus the two bills for fuel and about a buk fitty for jerky pop tarts and energy drinks for the twelve hour roundy. Not a bad haul overall.....

I was trying to do a little research on these rods and found a few part numbers but what rods /years are actually the "short" rod engines?
With the info I found it would seem the 82-83 CR480's and the 84-86 CR500's have a different rod because they show a different part number. Now I'm wondering just how many length rods there actually were.
If the CR480 has a short rod and the 84-86 also has a short rod but different part number is the 82 - 83 CR480 shorter yet than the 84-86 CR500's?
The 1987 - 2001 CR500's would then be the long rod engines.
82- 83 CR480 - 13201-KA5-770 (Obsolete)
84 - 86 CR500 - 13200-KA5-690 (Available)
87 - 89 CR500 - 13200-ML3-680 (Obsolete)
1990 and up CR500 - 13300-MAC-680 (just lists the complete crank assembly)
