I would take photos of everything and send Grant a bill for "x" hours @ $60 a hour for making the repairs.

ANY oil leak on a CR500 is bad news.

Stripped drain plug
Leaking center gasket
Buggered up countershaft sprocket shaft bore
Cracked case

I dont think I've ever seen a oil leak that was a easy fix.

This "deal" is going south rather quickly....

IT'S ALIVE!!!

Thanks for all the advice.

Just got back from the Honda dealership. They had never seen one. The bike needs a few odds and ends. Still trying to find the mysterious leak, but it looks like to comes from near the exhaust. Maybe unburnt fuel from kicking it so much?

Still waiting to hear back about the title. However the guy who sold it me was supposed to head to the DMV today or Monday.

Could be exhaust spooge from the headpipe manifold, a new OEM gasket, a cleaned out pipe joint and a bit of high temp RTV should help that.

Great idea.

Oh and I forget to mention.

The casing on the stator is cracked. Looks like a rock hit it pretty good.

That's the reason there is no screw through the stator on the lower side. It doesn't align anymore. Yet another thing the seller didn't tell me.

Oil is coming out of the weep hole below the water pump.

Tomorrow I'm pulling the engine, and parting it out.

Every time I start it there is a new surprise. The seller today told me it's a used bike. Not $hit, but an honest person would apprise me of issues.

I figure if I part it out I can at least sell the good bits, and use that towards a new engine.

Please, please if anyone knows of a decent engine that doesn't leak let me know. I can't take anymore surprises!!!

I'm already on Vicodin for a broken lower back. Beer and Vicodin and next thing you know I'd be posting naked pics of the wife.

Pull the motor, pull it apart and go thru it, water pump weep hole leaking oil is just a seal and a possible worn shaft, unless you build a new motor from a new pair of cases then you still won't nessecarily know what shape it's in, so you may as well rebuild and sort out what you've got. As for case issues and such well this is the best place to get that sorted out too. Roosty has brought some engine cases back to life that were destined for scrap metal and the photos have shown them to look great too, it's all doable... And then you can have peace of mind it's done right!!

Thanks Brother...

I was raped on this one. However I did get to take the bike down the road. It runs strong, but just leaks from all over.

Pics soon to come of the rebuild.

I appreciate all the advice. Soon GoPro video of me smashing something with the beast. Lately I've had trees jumping out at me on the trails. No, not while I was on Vicodin.

Drugs, beer, and bikes. Yep my kind of place.

Picked up another motor Saturday for a steal. The one in it was pulled today.

Over the next few weeks I'll go through the old one.

Well, if you plan on playing with these for a while, extra motors in the garage won't hurt. Just ask Roosty
