anyone running a 19 inch rear wheel on their cr500?

I picked up a set of wheels.

Talon hubs, Bucanan spokes and Excel rims.

The rear wheel is a 19 inch with a paddle tire on it. Will the 19 inch wheel pose any problems on the CR5? The diameter with the knobbie tire, i assume, would be the same as the 18 inch wheel.

Looking for advice/opinions.

Thx! :D

As long as it clears the mudflap/swingarm you are good to go.

If your going to use the paddle take the flapper off and put a shock cover on.

The outside diameter is meant to be the same as an 18". The lower profile of the 19" results in a stiffer side wall and more grip on smoother surfaces. My understanding is the 19" grew out of supercross and then jumped over to mainstream motocross. Desert racers who value the extra flat protection a taller tire gives have stuck with the 18". I can imagine the biggest pain would be more than one set of wheels with different sizes...

...given you don't have to worry about pinch flats in the dunes, maybe the extra stiffness of a 19" carcass will make the paddle tire work better. Just a thought.

There are better paddles made for the 19" rim.... like this Scat-Trac

Thats the only reason to run a 19" rim.

They look ghey too....

I put a 19" on my '01. Main reason being I used it for motocross as opposed to desert/offroad.

Theoretically you don't need the extra tire depth for sharp object impact protection for moto as opposed to offroad rocks, roots etc.

With the right tire the 19 makes for a lighter overall wheel weight for better suspension action, reduced gyroscopic force and as a result quicker turning/handling...plus they look better in my opinion and give the bike a more updated look.

19" is good for sliding around corners fast
18" gives much better straight line traction, and allows way more control when it gets hairy (sidehill, rocky root hill....)

i really doubt there is much weight diffrence, 1 lb max

better tires available in 18"............IRC M5B

the only place id ever choose a 19" is MX or flattrack

IMO, 19" is best for MX for a bunch of reasons and 18"
is best for everything else.

I run 19s on all of my MX bikes including my 500. The
two sizes swap out with no problems because the aspect
ratio of the tires change to keep the overall diameter
the same i.e. 110/90X19 vs 110/100X18.
