I am looking at buying a Gen 3 (2002 CR250R w/ 92 CR500 Engine) and was wondering if you guys would take a look at some pictures and tell me if you think the conversion was done right and how much you think the bike is worth.

Here is what I know. The current owner did the conversion. The only modifications to the frame were the front motor mounts, head stay and he said that the edges of the y in the frame where cut and heli-arced so the pipe could fit. I asked about the motor and he couldn't tell me anything aside from it being a 92 with stock carb. Take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think.

how cheap is it?
kinda looks like a starting point to build an AF from.
If you aren't planning on rebuilding the front rails, making proper exhaust mounts and fixing that Y area I'd stay away.

They guy is asking 3K. I don't know much about the AF conversions but I have been doing a little research and it definitely could have been done better.

looks ok to me i would strip it down completely and rebuild it ...what i like about it is the frame has not been cut which i think is a big plus while you got it stripped down try grind a lil bit more around the Y to get a better clearance around the header pipe but not much just a bit

for another $500 you can get alot more bike .... CL

Looks like the way everyone was converting them a few years back. Notching a piece of round stock and welding it in the frame for upper motor mounts

There are quite a few bikes on CL but they are all a long ways from me. This one is a 7 hr drive one way, there just aren't a lot of 500's in the pacific northwest. I really don't need an AF and would settle for a nice steel frame but even those are slim picking. After doing more research on these conversions and reading through several recent builds I think I would rather do an AF myself so I know it's done right. The only reason I want a 500 is for a dedicated snobike so I don't have to convert my KTM 300 back and forth for winter and dirt. The 500 also had a lot more power than my 300 and I really want to smoke my buddies 450 on the snow.

Tell me about it ... im in Australia & cant catch a CL break.
