Aluminum is very tough...
Alloy type
Pre Heat
Ambient Temp
Filler rod
Inert Gas selection
Material contamination
Skill Level..
It all plays into it.
.....Its not like steel.

As long as it holds, I wouldn't give the welds a second thought. By the time you get the pipe on, you're not going to see much of the Y anyway.
What thickness of material did he use to box in the top of the Y? I think I like that better than the bat wings.
Good job.

Good job.

A guy of by Lake Elsinore did it for me and he's been welding longer than I've been around. I kidded him about how they looked and all he said is
" this wasn't easy and I should have charged you alot more" LOL He used 1/8 thick billet for the Y and pretty much copied Shanmans motor mounts.
If this does not hold I'm going to go with the whole new Y and heat treated route ,so we'll see. As Bob said, this shit is pretty hard to weld so that's why I didn't try it with my limited TIG welding skills.

Talk to Teemtrouble (Mike) about the heat treating. I would bet that he'd suggest that you have it done now. The guy really knows his stuff.

I have been racing mine for two years with no issues at all. (did not heat treat it) it is not rocket science...........

That bike doesn't see any abuse. You should have double-dared me.
BTW, I'm not saying that this stuff is rocket science, but if it lessons the chances of failure, why not do it? Also, I have a lot of respect for Mike's opinions on the subject.

Being completely ignorant on the subject of metallurgy, I would totally have that conversation/education and really should butt out of this one.

Trust me, I'm as ignorant on the subject as most. All I know is what he's shared with me. However, after seeing his build, talking to him on the phone for a good while and given his experience, if he told me this needed to be heat treated, it would get heat treated.
Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

BTW: you are rockin' one of the better tag-lines I have read in a long, long time! Kudos.

I think it looks great. I have the box sections made for mine, and did mine the same way. I used .080 and used .125 DOM tube cut in half and pressed the aluminum into it to make a half moon saddle to box it in with (pics to come soon). I used a 1 piece inner support to close it out where you used a 2 piece section. Great job

first three gen. 3 headstays done (minus front hole to be match-drilled). Mike, one of these is yours (shoot me an e-mail)...the other two are for a friend of Bob's and Billy. I can make more if there is a need.
