Odd jetting today

I was riding (pulling arrows) today. It was 6 degrees celsius and pouring rain, I'm running a stock PJ with stock needle in middle clip. 168 main, 55 pilot. And it liked 2.5 turns on the airscrew

I have avoided touching settings on this bike since I built it because it has been Soo damn good. Smooth idle, great power, zero spooge. Basically it felt perfect.

So this morning she started great and as it warmed up there was the - chuffff- and she died... Wouldn't restart so I turned the airscrew in one turn and first kick it fired and seemed ok. After riding a bit it was surging coming back to idle so I turned the airscrew in a 1/4 more. It was still surging slightly but was then rich stumbling off idle like it never has before. I know the weather was awful today and pulling arrows on slick wet single track isn't great judgment but I'm thinking I should go to a 58 pilot and turn the airscrew out a bit further.

Anyways other than the minor lean surge and rich stumble it seemed to run awesome and work great.

stock needle
find the nearest wall and hit face on it, repeat 4-5 times

the stock needle is way too rich at low throttle openings
its pretty lean up top

it seems people try and correct the needle rich spot with a really lean pilot jet.... they also run a lean needle clip as it helps clean it up a little earlier
so now your bike has a bunch of rich and lean spots and it just isnt working good......

go buy a few needles, i guarantee you will find a needle that works better than stock before you even try them all...
DGK, DGL ,DGM ,CJK, CGL, CGM are a good starting point

Pulling arrows? Were you participating in the Bent Wheels event in Rose city?

I was a worker/volunteer at a canadian national enduro - Great Pine - ganaraska Ontario

Usually one of my favorite events, all single track in sandy pine and some hardwood forest.

2strokes So the dgn (etc..) isn't just for the pwk? In warmer weather I didn't want to mess with it because I had zero complaints with how it was running.

Keep in mind I've got an 06 cr250 that I'm still running the stock mikuni on and I'm used to it's jetting "issues" so the PJ just seemed to work so good.

I'll order a few needles and give it a go. Riding season is closing up here soon. Unless I go ice racing!
