I have been putting my 86 engine together and noticed the stator has 5 wires comming out of it instead of the later ones having only 4.The extra wire is white.I don't have a box for this engine yet so...what is the white wire for?

What cd box can I use?

Not an answer to your question about the extra wire, but I do have the complete ignition off my 88'. If you need one to test and fire up your engine you are more than welcome to borrow it or buy it for a few bucks. I am going to use the ignition off the 250.

i think '86 just used a different stator and cdi assembly. white wire goes to cdi. the other years has less wires so im not sure you can mix '86 stuff with other years but maybe. never messed with them older bikes so i dont know.

The 86' takes the double stator coil setup as stock

service manual i have shows 5 wires for 86. 4 wires for all other years.

85-86 500 and 87-88 250 definately have more wires

The extra wire equals the extra 10 hp the early motors have.

its got an electrode in the seat, if you ride sitting down it zaps your sack
