Yes, I got something from Staples.
It's called an external hard drive adapter.
It plugs into your new computer and becomes another drive on your system.

Doesn't sound fried. Sounds like hard drive maintenance is in order.

It plugs directly into the old hard drive, then into the new computer via USB. They're a trick piece... I have 2 for cleaning infected drives.
Here's a link to purchase one.

Be very careful when handling it all especially the hard drive itself.
Static electricity is a bitch for that stuff.
The one I got has an enclosure to protect it but, I don't use it because it traps heat.
Btw-Your bios probably got fried.

BIOS - BASIC INPUT/OUTPUT SYSTEM
No, you take the drive OUT of your old computer and plug it in to this thing and then plug this thing in to your new computer. I also carry one of those in my bag. Useful as all getout. Not wasted money no matter how you look at it.
If the old computer makes it to a "blue windows screen" before dying, neither the BIOS nor the hard drive are necessarily toast. My

Simple solution. Always be touching a metal part of the case when you are working on it to be sure your static is discharged. Not really that big a deal. Yes, static can toast some of that stuff, but it's pretty simple to avoid.

Sounds to me like the only problem is that you let the smoke out. thats the secret to electrinic parts, they all have just a limited amount of smoke, as soon as you let some escape they never work the same.
Danny Graves works in the IT field, maybe he has smoke refill kit though I've heard they are pretty expensive, cheaper just to buy new parts

Yes, you let some smoke out. If Windoze is slightly booting, chances are you'll be fine. Just like Mojo said - don't go tearing into your PC on the carpet.
