Spark Arrestor HELP!!!

I bought a PC spark arrestor (the guy thinks it's a PC anyway) form the other site. I got it today and took it apart to inspect and repack it. From what I can tell I believe it is a FMF Sparky. I think this because were the stickers use to be the residue is in the shape of a FMF decal. There is no screen inside, the pipe core goes through to the end cap and doesn’t seem to even have a place for a screen. I took apart my 250 FMF spark arrestor to compare the two and it is very similar minus the screen. Here are a couple of pictures:

If it isnt stamped "U.S.F.S. Approved" Its not a FMF Turbine Core spark arrester. Its the non approved Power core version

yeah man the spark arrestor version of the fmf doesn't have a screen it has a fan blade looking thing at the end cap, thus the turbine core name. The one you have is a silencer only.

Thanks Bob, I was just looking at the FMF site and I think its a Powercore or Powercore 2. :bash: I am thinking that I can make it a sparky by using the internals from the 250 sparky from my Gen. 1 donor engine, because the CAN is the same diameter so I might be able to make one out of the two.

Rhino89523,

Thanks. That is exactly waht it is. What do you think about me adapting the two into one?? Or should I just put it in the spare pile... and just buy a sparky

Even if I use the "can" from the 250 that is stamped?? Probably to much trouble and I will just have to save up the $$$ and buy a new one.

Dude let me look in my junk pile tomorrow I think I have one that the can is good but I wore through the connector that hooks to the back of the pipe. It has the stamp and all that and you could take the front of what you have and the back of mine and make one good one.

Helpful hint of the day.

Many rangers grab a stick and poke it into the silencer to see if the stick stops. If it does, they assume it is a Spark Arrestor. If it doesn't, they KNOW it is not.

below is the Krizman KS-650 that is the basis for turbine style spark arrestors.
Krizman patented these back in the 60's I believe.

I have an older one for cheep....or anyone looking to trade for sparky - as I need one too.

And Mojo is correct about the stick test. They really dont care about the stamp as much as you'd think.

Of course, if you're an asshole, they will look VERY closely.

At all the D-36 events I've run they use the stick method at the tech/sound check assembly line.
