i got myself a 07 with a 89 engine , which i want to keep sweet
what oils 2T and gearbox do you experienced 500 owners use

I'm rollin' with this now, both in the fuel and tranny.

Just make sure you use a good premix oil. Not some bargain basement stuff that Walmart has on sale. Be consistent with it and your ratio. Use the ratio the manufacturer of the oil recommends.

Ditto on the tranny oil and change it often.

You'll be all good.

Worrying over what's the best oil to use is a fool hardy worry.

I can't believe I'm responding to a "what oil" thread....

yep, asking what the best oil is is like what's the best pickup on the road. Dig around on here and you'll find plenty of opinions. Just one thing of caution when you decide on the tranny oil. Use one of the brands for diesel engines. Most of the regular motor oils these days have additives that will not agree with your clutch.

apart from an old (87) trials bike i,ve got i aint owned a two stroke for many years
so when you guys ssy use a decent pre-mix oil , do you mean a fully synthetic , semi or what??
and in my ignorance what brand is 927 ??

Man some guys swear by 10w40 cheepo oil with proper api rating noted in manual
some guys run ATF
some guys run gear oil from the cycle shop
some guys run honda gear oil
some guys run tractor hydraulic fluid

Oil threads get people all worked up.

i dont know dude. Amsoil says on their website that stuff boils off pretty easy

Yea they do....

Heres my best advice...

1. Spend $30 to get steel drive plates in the clutch if you dont have them already... The aluminum ones throw off WAY too much crap.

2. Get some 15w/40 diesel oil..... Like Rotella for $12 a GALLON, not a quart like some fiffy-poo-poo Motul synthetic shit....

3. Change it often. The tranny holds less than a quart. Not much oil compared to all the metal slinging around in there.

4. Done.
