mxraCR121's unit is up on the chopping block next. He has elected to move his original "Y" higher. His bike will look very stock too, when completed. I should have some photos up Friday....

Friday will be a very busy day around the ol' Heliarc....

Well, this has taken way longer than it should have, but let me explain....

I now think I see why Service Honda whacks off the entire cradle and starts anew..... the OEM cradles vary quite considerably from bike to bike. I have now seen 4 homemade Gen 3's upclose, and they were all quite different.

Billy's was, by far, the most challenging of the bunch. His cradle was tiny! So much so that there was no way the motor was going to fit with the stock lower cradle. The water pump hit badly, and the angle of the upright portion was all wrong to hit the midmount, and still continue on and intersect the "Y". The "push and shove" method simply was not an option as it failed to produce the same results as it has on other bikes.

The downtube is very tight on the motor as well, making it difficult to run the radiator crossover hose through there.

I did allot of disecting, and reassembly. It appears its all good now.

It should be welded tomorrow... sorry for the delay Billy. While not looking 100% OEM, its the best I can do under these conditions.. I'll post up some better photos after I get it back.

From this point foreword, I'm sticking to Gen 4's.......

Yeah, it does look better. I'm not too worried about the looks, though. It looks good enough!

Considering it cost peanuts in comaparison to the SH equivalent, I'd say you did a fine job!

I honestly don't think it looks bad, its got some nice clean welds. That scotchbrite did help though.

not to mention, you won't be able to see it when it's covered in mud and Billy is whippin' it over a 60 foot double!

Bob, looks like you can file this under the it's a $100 an hour if you need me to do some light fab and weld work and $300 an hour if you took it to someone else first to fix it first, and then brought it to me to save it.

Bob, I know how much you give to the CR500 community and I cant think of anyone who gives more. For those of you who do not know Bob, I can only say he is my Friend and is the kind of person who would give you the shirt off of his back. I know of countless people he has helped, and never asked for anything in return. Considering what he/ I received, this frame looks outstanding. There where many times through this I said send the thing back it's not worth saving, but Bob said no I made a commitment and I don't care how bad of a mess this thing is I will do what needs to be done. The underlying reason is so that he can get his bike back, how long has Billy been waiting...... a year and a half?

Bob, your a true friend to everyone on this site, even the ones who don't know it or appreciate it. Your friend JOE

Awesome, thanks Shan! I just found out the washers and bushing part numbers are stickied right here. I'll order them by Monday.
