Thought I would stop in, say hello and give a video/picture intro.
Names David, live in central Oklahoma.
I have a 97 in nice shape I ride all the time. Pic's are worth a 1000 words.

I look a little worse for wear, drove 5 hours to this meet,
got there at midnight, might of had one beer before crashing at 3 am. I'm no way a little guy but I do have a chest protector
under the jacket. I'm into dual sport. (Eureka Springs, Arkansas)



I use the Dual Sported K5 on the hardcore meets,
KLR is too heavy and lacking in the H.P. (Southeast Oklahoma)



Here's how it looked after buying it,
I've owned it about 4 or 5 years.



How it looks now.



This was the first day out since changing the fenders,
disc guard and side plates to NOS Honda.
I was told I bought the last NOS rear fender,
started not to install it, said screw it. I don't need stuff to
look at. (Crosstimbers OKC)





Also have a Service Honda.



Not afraid to use it, again don't need stuff to look at.



Lets break the ice, can't poke fun at others if you can
poke fun at your self. Here's me 10 years ago,
looking for a quarter I dropped.

Should have started "My name is David, I have an addition".
Some may say I spend my money on stupid stuff (girlfriend).
Unlike gambling, partying too hard or bar hopping we can
go look at my stupid stuff. And I'm home at night with the
lady if not on a ride. It took her a few years
but she finally accepted it.

That's excellent, don't get stopped by a lady hi-po.

Hows the CR compare to the KX in your opinion?

They both scare me every once in a while. I run flywheel weights on all of them and
the biggest rear sprocket that will fit. Had to tame them a little. Most of my riding
is single track in the woods. The Honda is my all purpose bike, it's fun everywhere.
The dual sport KX is heavy feeling in the slow tight stuff but very stable at high speed.
It does the rocky S.E. Okla. ride real well, tractors up all the hills even in the wrong gear.
The A/F KX is my favorite. You just point it where you want to go, like riding the rails
of a train. Works Connection suspension, had to because I weigh in at 275 pounds
geared out with a small amount of tools and the water I carry.
If I had to measure I would call the KX500's the hole shot, knock your teeth out
with the handle bars, straight line suicide machine.
The Honda I would describe as light weight big bore chainsaw.
NO forest can stand in it's way. The grin factor after a long day in the saddle
is 100 percent with the least amount of body fatigue of the two.
I have an A/F Honda but I don't know the mechanical history on it.
When it gets hot this summer I hope to find the time to dismantle for a
service/safety/dependability check.
I just ride for fun, never been in an organized race. Don't want to get hurt AGAIN.
I just like the 2 smoke'n 500's. The muscle car of motorcycles.
My lady told me I love my bikes more than her, I said "What's your point?".
Needless to say that did NOT go over very well.
When it's all said and done, I'm a Honda fan at heart!
I got pushed into the Kawi's because the Honda dealers here in Oklahoma City suck.
They act like they could care less if they get my business, even after buying a few
new bikes from them. That's change since the economy has gone South.
I only get dicked around once and I won't be back.

Yes AB I agree, counter productive if you want quick and fast. Here's a pic that is
more counter productive. I'll call it "Before Flywheel Weight."
This is why I call the '04 KX "Chewy".



Before the flywheel weights the bikes were like lights switches. On or off, no in-between.
The big sprockets let me get into 2 gear on the trails, for sure on the KX they have
a tall first gear. With the correct rider (not me) they can climb most hills.
I'm no wuss, I would say I ride "guarded". I'm pushing 54 years old and the
guys I ride with most, are in their late 20's to mid 30's. When confronted with obstacles like
big hills, unknown water crossings and deep looking mud we let Terry go first.
If he makes it we follow suit. If not, we get his bike unstuck, picked up or dried out
and find an alternate route. Sometimes he just decides to NOT use the bridges.
