Ignition Covers................

Post by mxdogger »

I have found a new machinist, I talked to him today about making all my parts and looking into doing

Ignition Covers from billet.

Anyone interested please pm me about the covers, i need at least 10 hoons wanting them for him to do them. price is around $150-$200 depending on how much labor and interest is truly involved. This will be a non-profit venture for me, im just trying to fill a void for something thats not available for cr500's and i will diffinitely want one myself. 8-)

so i only need 9 more hoons....................

If you don't decide on a std common design, just get them made with a thicker cover face. Then you / purchasers can get anything put on them. Or those that don't care about signage, can run the stronger item.

The biggest part of the job is the actual case cover, and making sure it can use std o'rings. I hate how my HM ignition uses a paper gasket. At least it was easy to machine the HM unit to take the deleted forward , lower bolt they neglected to make it take. I've no idea why they thought that was too hard......

Thats a very good point bearoso, maybe it would be best to do that or i decide and thats the way they sell. Do you think the cover should also offer more inner clearance for flywheel weights or ?

If it has clearance inside for flywheel weight, I'll be up for one, depending on price. I have a SH flywheel to go on my '90 now . . . I dont care about graphics (a gear lever deflector/protector may be nice though ?)
Any idea of dollars ?

I think it was $175 for the ignition cover and $150 for the clutch, please don't qoute me.
Im going to start out with the ignition covers then work on getting some clutch covers done and would like any feedback on the needs of the design, like oil capacity, size, shifter/brake lever clearances, anything else that can be incorperated to make these a great value.

Thru some feedback from talking with others it might be easier to have the covers engraved at a local engraver with the design you want than me having them machined in and also dealing with the decision of what everyone wants.

Im still waiting for feedback on a design everyone would like to have.

heres an idea for a design.

picture "CR500RIDERS.COM" but bent into a circle around the perimeter (bear with me a moment)

then a BANNED stamp straight across the center.

so basically it would look like they were made for cr500riders.com
then BANNED was stamped across it.

Good luck with that.....every time someone tries to get these made, it turns into a disaster. I'm surprised at least one company doesnt offer these full time, as they obviously have a demand.
