1993 cr500 sand bike!

So i picked up a '93 cr500 a couple weeks ago. I have been reading and poking around this section for a while now and have answered some of my questions...

First off, Being new i would like to know of any items that may become troublesome down the line esp. for this year cr. I have ridden before but only four pokes.

Secondly, Are there any reputable machine shops around the southern California area? As i know i will eventually need a engine overhaul. I have read all about some of the shops that are getting good customer feedback but they all seem like they are in the middle of the country.

Also i have a bad dent on the bottom of my frame.... It does not look like there are any cracks forming but i just don't feel comfortable with it being there.

Cool bike! I wouldnt worry about the dent I aint ever heard of or seen a steelie break.

If it is just a rebore/hone job find a decent local machinist.

As far as porting I cant reccomend anyone Ive used in the past.

On a side note, should i be able to turn my engine over by pushing on the kickstart with my hand? It gives some resistance but mot much..

depends how fast, i can push thru the compression stroke, but slow, not anywhere near cranking speeds
on the compression stroke it should be really hard

A little update on the bike for who ever cares,

After i pulled the engine out of the frame i went to a local shop to have it measured. Turns out i need to bore the next size up. We also looked at the bottom end and determined that it needed to be replaced as well also... So i am getting my crank machined and getting new crank bearing as well as a complete gasket set. Thats where i am at tonight. Will keep you guys updated.

So much for all the "Christmas" money i got. This hobby like most of them is gonna break me!
