Xr650r are going dirt cheap now and they are very capable bikes- ride mine just like the 500 in all the worst desert stuff.
Picked my 02 up for 1800$.

THe KLR's, XR650L's & DR650's are heavy.

The XR-650r is around 280.
You can open them up to get alot more HP.

If you want to ride hard, in the dirt, go with the R.
You can ride them real hard, they are just not big jumpers.

The others are good on roads, if you will spend alot of time on asphalt.
