My 1997 cr500 restoration!

Post by addski72 »

Hi guys im just the process of restoring my dads 97'cr500, its been stuck in a shed for 10 years!.
basically my rmz died, and was stuck without a bike , so i dug out my dads old 500 rode it AND loved it like nothing i had rode before. sold the rmz and the restore began!

So far = replaced every bearing in engine+seals.
barrel honed to 90.00mm exhaust bridge reduced.
wiseco piston kit.
frame powder coated ferrari red.
new nuclear red plastics
1989 rad decals
1988 swining ard decals
renthal fat bars and clamps
lots of other little bits.

gonna put pics where i am so far, picking up frame tuesday, and finishing engine monday, then will put up the next lot of pics.

lol no :D . the mud was from a very muddy dirt mx practise day, few days before i striped it.

And as for the exhust port bridge, had a couple thou taken away from where it meets cylinder, where wiseco ask u to drill holes in there pistons, witch im doing monday.

Hi guys. thanks for the replies , i was just wondering what you guys thought of wiesco piston?? as i have all the bottom end of engine built now, and i will be drilling and installing the wiesco top-end 2moro.
The bike will be used for mx practise/open class events. and w-s-m beach race.
I could get my hands on a new cast piston if i must. but i guessed forged wiseco would live longer.

P.S. the bike is a 1997, just it had the black&red saddle, and the black rad scoops stolen when the bike was chained up, just before it got stored forc10 years.

The bike was chained up very well, they couldnt get the bike, so they took the plastics and seat.

Hi m8, the yellow wire is to a extra coil on the stator. the bike is road registered, and it had road tyres and lights and a number plate when i got it out. i put it back to mx trim.

Why is the case all goofy around the shifter shaft hole?

im guessing the bike had a big fall on the gear shaft, cause when i took it apart, there was a crack in the inside lip where the shaft goes through. the guy i had weld thought it was a good ideal to back fill the corner with weld (prick).
Well i done a dummy build, and the weld was fouling a selector fork. So borrowed a dremel and cleaned it all up.

Nice job!!!
The powder coating on the frame is such a close match to the plastic.
It looks very factory
