Hi guys,

I just took my newly-purchased 1990 CR500 out to the desert this weekend and loved the bike except for one thing - EXCESSIVE Vibration! I have owned a CR500 before so I know that vibration and the CR500 come hand in hand. However, it seems to be much more apparent on this bike than others I have ridden because the thing will vibrate right through the bars and up for your arms.

My father installed pro taper bars and the Scott's steering stablizer set up so I am not exactly sure what the problem may be.

My question to you- Are there any rubber mounts of any kind or any aftermarket products that could be installed in order to buffer out the vibration on this beast? Thanks in advance for the insight.

There could be several things that make it vibrate, motor mounts loose,
pipe rubbing on something, motor in a bind in the mounts, or crank bearings, more than likely if it has not had crank bearings since 1990

Crank bearings? Possible, see if there is any up and down movement at the flywheel, then try the easy stuff.

Loosen the motors mounts, is there a gap of .030-.060 or larger? Add washers as nessessary.

Is the pilot jet to rich?

While your at it, pull the reed cage off and check for a cracked piston.

If you have checked everything out and the vibration is "normal", check out Faast vibration-damping inserts for your handlebars or the Tru Technologies Flexbar system, or fill the bars with silicone.

I had the same problem with my '95 model when I got it.
Checked the engine mounting bolts and EVERY SINGLE ONE was loose!
Also had to weld-up and fabricate some new exhaust brackets.
I don't think the previous owner knew what he was doing!
Vibrations should be a lot less if the engine's tightly bolted in the frame and the exhaust is bolted-up with all the proper gaskets / rubber buffers etc.
If you've still got vibes, something's worn or out-of balance in the motor.
My bike has rubber buffer inserts where the handlebar clamps bolt onto the top yolk, but the vibes were still really bad until the engine and exhaust were bolted in properly.

I think allot of A/f's vibe badly due to hogged out mount holes (to "correct" poor drilling in the first palce) and cheezy head stays.

The engine and frame should be the same mass, not two independant mass's , quasi bolted together.
