Need clutch help

My '85/'86 engine is almost completely assembled, and I've run into a problem with my clutch. I do not have the retainer washer that goes between the basket and the inner hub, and I see on the SH website that that piece has been discontinued. I have the two piece "cotter" that goes against the basket.
1)How does the retainer washer physically keep the two piece cotter in? The exploded diagram doesn't show, and I've never seen the complete assembly.
2)Is there another piece or solution that will do the same thing (i.e. hold the cotter in place).
3)Do one of you hoons have one of these retainers laying around?

Here's a picture of the two-piece cotter inside the clutch basket. How is a washer able to hold it in against centrifugal force?
Also, I went back to the SH website and looked at the diagram again. The '85 clutch shows the discontinued washer as being 44.5 mm. The '86 diagram shows the washer available, and it is listed as a 23 x 45mm washer. Does anyone know if the later piece will work?
Here's the motor so far. I haven't machined the stator yet for the 250R stator.

dude, we should have found you a couple of pieces to update that clutch.
the washer you're hunting is thin with a formed lip on it, looks like a cup style freeze plug.
I'll have a look if i get to the shop tommorrow. I did have some of that 84-85 stuff
The gear in the center of the basket can be pressed out, an 86+ one pressed in, a different style bearing and shaft would work in the cases and trans and clutch hub.

I think I understand how it works now. The exploded diagram doesn't make it obvious that the washer has a retaining lip. I suppose I could also look for an appropriate sized freeze plug, drill it out and machine it to the right depth if I had to in the worst case.
Heck, I went backwards with the clutch. You're looking at an '84 basket from a complete assembly I bought off of Ebay.
That '85 stuff is hard to find.

Ive got two boxes of 85 transmission stuff I don't need- let me know if there is a part you need I will send it to you.
Just a hint but all the modern tranny stuff will fit in the 85 cases without any problem- I gave up on the 3 dog tranny after grenading two of them.
