ignition cover bump ?

What is the purpose of the bump on the ignition side cover of the factory works bikes back in the day

I think it's there to clear the clutch actuating arm as it swings out,
at least that's what it looks like with the one I have. The stock
cover is wider so it doesn't need the bump.
