Solid Bro's CRF250R Conversion
Solid Bro's CRF250R Conversion
Today was the big test drive day.... Bike is bitchen.
Eric made all new cradle tubes and double headstays.
This is the lowest vibe CR500AF I think I've ridden.... and the motor came out of an ol' clapped out piece of shit.
Needs a smaller pilot and the lean needle, but otherwise its a sweet ride.
Eric got some seat time today, plans to ride it in the Elsinore GP this weekend.
Great job Eric, post up some more info and details on this build.
Its a rolling testbed for some products Eric will be offering soon..
Well just so everybody is up to date.
Last year just before Hoonfest I got a sweet deal on a 2006 crf250r for $1000.00
And a clapped out 93 cr500 that was pretty close to just a basket case.
So the only good thing was the motor. For $900.00
I rode the 250 at hoonfest after that used it for a few rides but didn't want to chance blowing up the motor.
We pulled the motor out and sold it on e-bay for $1300.00 Paypal and shipping fees generated about $1000.00
Than sold the stock dual exhaust for $150.00
So all and all were in this thing pretty cheap.
The tank is on loan from cmotodad. It pains me to say this but I smoked
the stocker and didn't have time to get another.
Ridered I feel your pain.
After Elsinore I will blast the cases Jeffy just for you.
Around every corner was a gremlin just waiting for us to get there.
A seized swing arm axle adjuster bolt cost a bunch of time. the best one was we
were putting new springs in the forks the first one fell out, the second wouldn't budge.
So we reached down inside and pulled it out as far as we could wedging a
screw driver horizontally across the body. Putting two more into the body
of the shock and twisting it to screw the spring out.
With a call to cmotodad (Bob) he explained to me that the bolts that hold
on the fork guards and the disc guard are different lenghts and sure
enough, I remember pulling those off and the bolts were not seated
against the fork guards and there was no disc guard but the bolt were in the holes. So it dimpled the inside of the shock pinching the spring in place.
With about six inches of the spring exposed something was
telling me this isn't good with all the spring stretch (energy) going on when she goes she's gonna go far. cmotodad said that if your lucky you can put a
screw driver in the other end and tap the spring and it will come out.
I "aimed" the shock body towards the street stuck that screw driver in the
end and gave her a tap. That shit broke loose and shot the spring and
screw drivers 60 feet into the street. Thankfully I wasn't holding on to them.
And the usual stuff after moving my shop into storage stuff gets scattered everywhere.
Missing hoses, hardware small pieces and parts, ect.
As for the CR500factory.com
Me and my son Garrett are getting a small shop in Irvine Ca,
So we can build stuff, working in the garage sucks!
We thought that it sounded cool looked it up and it was available so we snatched it up. We don't know if it will work but Obama isn't going to
create a job for me so I'll do it myself.
Garrett got on his computer and designed and cut it out on the vinyl cutter
that we have.
I just want to thank everybody that has helped out with this monster.

Alisobob and Solid,
what are the differences if any between your builds? I know bobs has a longer wheelbase but did that affect the conversion at all? I have read of guys having to clock their motors or modify their pipe for clearance on the gen 4 250 chassis. did either of you have clearance issues and if so, how did you resolve them? I wanted the "X" chassis for the longer wheelbase but I got a really clean 07 "R" chassis for a bunch of old 250R four wheeler parts. It had $2k of aftermarket stuff and they guy just wanted to get rid of it because he went thru 2 motors in less than 40 hrs and the valves were starting to go again so he is going back to a smoker. anyways I will probably keep this chassis unless the "X" is way better for the conversion. how different is the handling between the 2 conversions? what creates the difference in the wheelbases, triple offset or the angle of the neck itself? I know the two bike are similar but have a few little differences here and there.

You can find the differenced between the "X" and the "R" here....
http://www.rickramsey.net/CRF250Xcomparo.htm
The biggest difference is in the fork rake and trail numbers and suspension valving.
eriC replaced the whole cradle, where I just scabbed onto the OEM one.
I used a Honda steelie pipe, where eriC used a P/C "A/F" one. Either way, there are no clearence issues.
Other than that , their pretty similar.
