Well I ordered a few parts today, Ordered a service honda clutch cover since mine had a repair on it.. I really like the "honda racing" cover they sell.. looks nice, Ordered some tires, and ASV C-5 levers for it.. Starting to dress it up some

what are you guys doing for springs to get the cr250 forks up to par.. Seems like the bike is a little bit nose heavy now with the 500 motor in it.. Wha like one bump up on size when getting the correct springs for your weight and style?

This would depend on how much you weigh and what weight springs are in your forks to start with.
In my case if the springs are what the owners manual claim they are .44kg/mm ( forks ) and 5.2kg/mm ( shock ) way to much rate for my lightass.
On the race tech web site they claim stock to be .43kg/mm ( forks ) and 5.0kg/mm ( shock ) still to much rate for me.
Their calculator reccomends to use .41kg/mm ( forks ) and 4.81kg/mm ( shock ) for 70kgs of me and approx of extra kgs of conversion.
Will get the right weight when conversion is completed.

I know how to set up the bike for my weight but am wondering how you guys are compensating for the heavier motor and weight distribution being more forward... So yea I will get the springs for my weight for a 250 and still may need them a little heavier for the motor swap.. Just like how racetechs spring rate calculator increases the rate for a bigger fuel tank

It is also possible the springs maybe to stiff to start with.
Each spring has a tolerance of weight of maybe 20-30lbs or more and you may not need to change the spring at all.
The weight of the engine would be looked at like it was a slightly heavier rider and if you don't weigh into the next spring range you would use the standard one.

Ok, not sure your grasping my question.. I understand about setting up suspension, Bike feels nose heavy.(Weight is more plus it is forward. In bike compared to 250) Bike will get needed adjustments. Just wondering from someone who has run into the same thing what folks have done.. Thanks again

More than likely will put the springs in for my weight plus the 9 pounds or so and maybe run a little more sag... I will get it dialed before my first race with it:D

Sorry, my answers have been a bit general and also the weight difference will not be the same if useing a different bike / chassis.
The CR125, CR250, CRF250 and the CRF450 will all have a different "lb" value of weight between the original bike and the modified CR500 version.
Also the front to rear weight split won't be the same either.
Each gen CR250 and CR125 will different as well
Even bikes of the same model will end up with a different weight when modified differently. ( only slightly in some cases )
In setting up the suspension for an AF500 it's like a heavier ( in some cases it may be a lighter ) rider on a standard version of the bike you have modified.
Concerning the weight front to rear being added it would work out pretty much even.
With my CR250 I will be weighing the front wheel and the back wheel as a standard CR250 and then weighing the CR500 version in the same way.
That way I will know the total weight difference between standard and modified, plus the front to rear split as well.
This will make it easier to set the springs up.
I wasn't trying to imply you were a dummy and knew nothing about setting up suspension, there are other people who read this info and it needs to make sense to them as well.

And I can feel the fly wheel difference but it is nose heavy back to back from when it had the 250 motor in it.. Will do some testing tomorrow at the motocross track and the stock suspension.. I will give a report. Can't wait

Took it to the motocross track today!! Tested the Frame Big time Casing a 60' double HARD.. Racked my nuts and wrenched my back

But as soon as the sick to my stomach feeling went away I jumped off the bike and inspected the frame.. Figured if it was going to have a issue that would have been the time

I think mx-tech.com still has a spring generator for the service honda bikes on thier website, haven't been on it for awhile though

Had to sell the first one, But You know it I have another 02 cr250 and another cr500 to build the next one.. Can I do it quicker than 13 days this time...lol

Really great write up with good pics and explanation. Been building mine in the same manner (algava build). Been kind of cruising a long at a little more of a snail pace, due to outside forces. Just gave me a little more motivation after reading. Thanks
