something crossed my mind. i know some of calvins cylinders use cr500 bolt pattern on the reeds. ill bet these vf3 were originally designed for his shit and they probly have larger throat. douche bags at mototassinari knew they would half ass work for a cr500 motor so they threw some new badging decals on the box and put them on the market. when you look at how tight the flaps are and how out of whack the stuffer is then it all begins to make sense. no fukin way they were designed from a cr500 cylinder.
I don't agree that they made it fit calvins stuff he is a small fish in a big pond.100hp honda wrote:something crossed my mind. i know some of calvins cylinders use cr500 bolt pattern on the reeds. ill bet these vf3 were originally designed for his shit and they probly have larger throat. douche bags at mototassinari knew they would half ass work for a cr500 motor so they threw some new badging decals on the box and put them on the market. when you look at how tight the flaps are and how out of whack the stuffer is then it all begins to make sense. no fukin way they were designed from a cr500 cylinder.
If you look the replacement reeds are the same for almost every VF3 reed cage they make and really the 2's where the same.
Some motor designs benefit some don't when you make a generic size fit 90% of the motors.
Its to bad someone doesn't make a billet aluminum version with custom fit reeds that was optimized for the 500 its self

i'm looking for billet, I have guys that'll make the reed pedals in whatever quantity needed.
It'll need to be made properly on a 5 axis cnc tho, blended from the carburetor to the pedal tip as 1 piece

eddie sanders of ESR makes billet v-force knock offs for the 250r's wonder if we could get his supplier to make them.
I know modquad made the coolant temp gauges for ESR at one time maybe he would be interested in doing it, they make allot of billet pieces infact Mike who owns it is suppose to be making me some custom billet axle hubs for my titanium axle. To bad I have been waiting for more than a year and a half. Man that pisses me off now that bring it up

Billet reed cage
Www.mossbargerracing.com
These guys make a aluminum reed cage that out flows all of them ( thats what they say) looks like a modified stock 8 pedal cage so I don't know how much better they are over stock I'm sure there is a improvement but where?? It flows more air which means to me a slower velocity at lower rpms means less John Deere torque
Someone on one of the sites had one can't remember who it was anybody tried one of these

Looking forward to your test results, Roosty!
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...
Heres some better photos of my teardown.....
Intake side of cylinder looks near new......
Exhaust shows some wear, digital camera is adding to the effect
Underside or piston shows some heat stress. Black spot in the middle is pretty common, discoloration going all the way out to the edge of the crown is due to many flat out runs across dry lake beds... some pretty good heat!!
These are some telling photos..... now remember this piston is 4+years old and shows almost zero wear. The only wear visable is from where hot combustion gas has come down through the ring end gaps and blown the 927' off the cylinder wall. The top ring gap shows the most wear, the second ring slightly less....No blow by, no varnish, ring lands absoultly spotless, no scoring of other Wiesco type shit.
None of these parts were washed or cleaned in any way... its exactly how they came out. Vertex = Good.
Compare the skirt of this Vertex that has gone up and down the cylinder 5,000,000,000,000 times..... to this one thats only gone through a cylinder twice...
Which one do you think fits the bore correctly??
Any questions????
