Ya depending on how many times it blinks your manual will tell you where the problem is

I bet its running something like 80 psi
most FI run 30-45 psi I ran 45 on my mitsu, I knew guys running injectors that were too small, so they cranked it higher and ran into issues with pump failures and fuel line capacity. I ran 4 86lb/hr Seimens injectors (flow matched at 930cc) at a lower line pressure and didn't have any issues. (I know, there were seimen injectors, I get it...

This is what I'm excited to find out. Being among one of my BIGGEST complaints about fourstrokes. I could enjoy them a little more if they weren't so prone to flaming out!
Now I'm sure it's gonna run good and be an improvement over the carbed models. But sure as shit units will fail. And you better believe I'll be laughing my ass off all the way to the truck under my bikes own carbureted power. And seeing the FI light flicker is no lesser an ass pounding than it failing all together. It costs just as much money to fix the "flicker" than it does a toasted unit. It's like buying a new carburetor when a jet gets plugged. I don't know?? Fuel Injection is just not what fourstrokes need to have for me to become fond of them. Personally I'd rather see electric start on all models over FI.

yeah, I have to agree with you on the cost of failure factor! on a carbed bike, the whole fuel system costs $200 to replace. on the FI models, I bet that wouldn't cover the fuel pump alone.
oh coarse, that is everything with thumpers. I would bet that the motors will last longer with the efi since poor tuning will no longer be a factor contributing to engine failure. everyone I know is is remotely mechanically inclined and has a 450 has not had any blow ups or major engine problems, I think poor maintenance, poor tuning and over reving the snot out of them are the main factors to engine problems. Good example is Justin, he has a 5 valve yami that is an '06 and has seen abuse most would never want their bike to go through, but it always has a clean and well sealed filter, always gets fresh oil and proper valve adjustments and is properly tuned. it still runs like a champ with a motor that has never been opened up. But them I head about guys who only rode a dozen times and had nasty complete failures. Most of the latter have been tough guy flatbillers who can't change their own oil and probably still had the factory fill in the crankcase. just my .02
Trust me, I'm not saying lets all get thumpers, but I think that one would make an awesome trail bike for where I ride and my 500 would still be king of the hill at dumont (even if my riding abilities are far from it

Aside from all of the potential fuel pump problems, lets not forget that is is infact a 4 stroke. How many people do you know who have owned one of these for 6 months to a year without having to completly rebuild the enigine because of catastrophic faliure? Every person I know who rides a CRF has had to rebuild the engine at the mear cost of hundreds of dollars a time. Not a very good return on a bike that cost's $8000+ and is sold without a warranty LOL Personally, I would give it at least a year and see what kind of flaws they find first. Don't be a $9000 test piolet!

I can actually think of 4 guys off the top of my head who have brutalized their 450s for close to 2 years without anything but basic maintenance. Like I said in my previous post, when they are well taken care of they run a good long time, even ridden hard. The dunes kill thumpers a lot from over rev and air filter failures, but if I get one it will be a trail bike while my 500 with still be the one I ride in the sand

None of the experts here can get more than a year out of their bikes without a total rebuild, and total junk at 2 years. That includes 3 or 4 valve jobs.
Jetting isn't an issue if you keep the throttle open!

I'll never buy a 4-stroke. Ive ridden 450's but when it comes down to the two I like the way 2-strokes ride, feel, sound and smell. I love riding on the pipe !! A 4-stroke will never be able to replace that feel.

Couldn't have said it better! Right on! Personaly I can't justify the amount of money to buy a new one then the cost of maintaining it. I am not a pro level rider by any means therefore I don't need to have the newest cutting edge machinery, However, on the flip side there is just something about going home with a brand new bike in the truck. Puts alot of lead in the pencil you know. Prices are driving people away and it will just get worse though. Out at our dunes here over Labor Day it was kind of cool, it looked like a vintage rally everyone out on older bikes mostly 2 strokers, nice to see. I say if it suits you and you can afford it and still feed your family then go for it!

You guys need a friggin support group!! I have never met a bigger "head in the ground" group in my life...save for the anti-gun fuckheads.
You can have 14 carbs on your bike and it wont mean SHIT when your stator takes a shit. Pretty friggin COMMON too...
Anyone who says "a thumper wont last 6 months without a valve job" or "the best guys here cant keep one going" needs to move out of Taiwan and FIRE their friggin mechanic...
"id rather see electric start then fuel injection" Dude, get a DICK sowen back on to cover your hairy puss up...
I have an 06 YZ450 that as many of you know gets ridden HARD as in MILE+ long wheelies (literaly, by the way) on the road, desert and sand. Endless hill shooting and 80+ft MX air time. I change the oil often and clean the filter when its dirty. You know how many times its needed a valve adjustment since ive owned it?? ZERO You know how many top ends?? ZERO Spark plugs?? ZERO get a friggin clue people. When you or your mechanic looks like THIS:
YOU FRIGGIN DESERVE IT!!
"Ill NEVER buy a thumper" GOOD more for me!! Keep thinking the 500 is the only bike for EVERYTHING and ill just keep cruising along half as tired as you when the tight stuff, or MX comes along.
500 KING OF THE DUNES and open desert, and thats about it...When you realize BRUTE FORCE power isnt for every situation and precision, easily modulated power is very usefull in its place, then you might start walking on 2 legs instead of 4...
FLAME on biches, I aint skurd, and I dont need a big bad 500 to feel like a man. You have to beat my 450 before I waste my time bringing out the 500, in a drag race, any where else the 450 is superior. And unless you have OWNED and RODE with years of experience on both a 2 stroke and a thumper, then you need not apply your "opinions" to me. "My buddy had" or "i read this magazine" or "this guy said" dont mean SHIT. Ive been there and done that, my first bike was a 500, I still have it, and I still have my first thumper, ive owned and rode many many bikes, so dont waste my time with your he said she said knowledge...

Since when do wheelies tax a motor. I've just seen you cruize the bike.

Just because you believe this dosent make it true. ALLOT of "A" level riders say the exact opposite, and your FAR from an "A" rider

The CR500 engine does have modulated power, when tunes properly... try it some time.
FLAME on biches, I aint skurd, and I dont need a big bad 500 to feel like a man.
There is nothing to flame, this is your opinion.... But I think its time for you to start your own "Jews for Jesus" board. Obviously you dont belong to the CR500 mindset, even if you own one. Bike ownership was never a prerequisite to belong here, enthusiasm is.

Wheelies usually equal reduced oil pressure and increased wear due to many factors, shall I elaborate??
You've only seen me cruize the bike cuz few people have seen me haul mail. Its a short list:
Stoffers
Trouble
Graves
Igg
various Clan...
Im sure theres a few more, but fact is those kinds of speeds arnt conducive to "group riding" as we end up circling all day...
I never claimed I was an "A" level rider, but I can tell you with 100% confidence the ones I know would never pick a 2 smoker over a thumper for what I have explained...
Few bikes are better tuned then mine, or others that have came to me for tuning help...
If the "cr500 mind set" is "im a bad ass mofo cuz I ride a 500, its the fastest bike ever, and its the best choice for anything and everything" then I am not a member, nor have I ever been of THAT mind set, so enjoy it...

I gotta say (and believe me I hate it) Im with MFDB on this one, the 500 is bitchin in the dunes and desert no doubt.
In the tight stuff and MX there is no friggin way its as easy at a smooth 4t, I know FOR A FACT I would be faster in say the adelanto GP on a 450 vs my 500.
This does not mean im dumping my 500, I flat love the power delivery, noise, smell and all that comes with a big bore 500. Shit on a track im about as competative as a lettice BUT I know I would finish higher up if I was on a thumper. Finishing position isnt important to me so I ride my 500
Horses for courses, IMO a 500 is a big old stallion thats a few years past its prime, hes cantancarous and farts a lot but when he gets a hair in his ass he can hurt ya and walk away from the new foals

Lets see,David Knight Destry Abbot,Barry Hawk ( tons of other GNCC guys) Armpump, Hell, the Oakdale Group ( Stoffers, Hagendog, Worm.... Those guys would eat you for lunch Justin), et al...

I was watching one of those "Test Drive" car TV shows, they took 40 people to Willow Springs and had them take laps in Dodge Neon's, and Viper's. 95% of them lapped faster in the Neon. Why? Easy to drive, no power. The other 5% KILLED in the Viper, because they knew how to drive it. The exact same scenario is played out in the MX mags when they test AJ's bikes. Most are slower on it, when compared to a thumper, the fast guys are faster on the 500AF.

That is a perfect example of what I was trying to say, no amount of power in the world will make you faster if you havent got the skill to use it.
Put any of the oakdale group on a CRF230 and I guarantee they would SPNAK me round a track with me on my AF.

So, the more accurate way to say it is the CR500 is slower with you on it, not that a thumper is the faster bike.
Ive never seen anyone ride like Tracy ( Armpump), Some one should link the video of him going UP the "Large Falls" in AZ. For those of you who have no idea of what i'm referring to, its a stone covered waterfall thats steep, rough, and insane. There is hardly any runup to it. You get positioned, and blast off! Few riders go down it, even fewer go UP it. Trace does, and he says its the CR500 motor that makes it possible.
