your right about birth rate of 2.35 being a good target.
birth rates can be raised by policies such as "baby bonus" and "parental leave schemes" an our governmentsa have recently put in place.
australias birth rate in the last two years has increased dramatically because of this.
but one of the main reasons people are deciding not to have children is because nobody can afford them as the price of accomodation in our country is a financial crippling factor for my generation (25-35yrs)

have you ever tried raising a family on minimum wage when the cheapest house you can buy is $300,000 at an interest rate of 6- 8% p.a. in some adelaide ghoto?
this is why most of my friends dont have children. there mortgages are crippling them and neither of them can afford to stay home with a child because both incomes are needed to keep up on mortgage repayments.

yet our gov brings in sudanese/indian/philipino immigrants.
provides them with dirt cheap gov housing
pays for there language and study courses
and gives employers subsidies for hiring them, undercutting australian workers!

the waiting list for native australians to get gov housing is a 9 year wait plus.



personally i dont like the "big australia" policy. its one of the reasons our last p.m. was sacked because most other australians dont like it either.

its straining our infrastructure
raising the price of real estate 3 fold in 7 years
causing the cost of our amenities to rise, water, food etc.
and its taking jobs away from indigenous population.we still have an unemployment rate of 5%
our water costs are set to "double" next year because we had to build a desalination plant to accomodate for our "booming population"water needs.

youve seen the race riots weve had in sydney. and if you have ever been to suburbs like banks town, or cabramatta, you would see just what immigration side effects really are.
