x8,000,000 on the Ruger 10/22. The cheap guns are tempting but what price would you put on your kids safety? Even if the thing is "safe" a day spent clearing jams instead of shooting is a real bummer for an adult let alone a young kid. Besides, a quality gun is something Jack may hand down to his son one day like Danny is doing...
Kudos for exposing your kids to proper gun handling (you didnt say but I know you well enough) instead of hiding them and having their curiosity get the best of them in a disastrous way later on...
10/22's are like SB Chevy's you can get parts and hop ups at friggin 7-11...

everyone warned me against getting a Hi-point c-9 luger (listed on bob's link as frequently purchased with the Armscor) because it was cheap.
I bought one local, and as soon as i got it i polished the ramp and indexed the mags... i have over a thousand rounds through it w/o a jam.
lay eyes on that thing and you'll know instantly if it's worthy or not.
i would never buy a gun on the internet without handling it first.

You get what you pay for and since the point of a hand gun is to conceal it (like I do everyday) I dont buy low end stuff. Its like buying the cheapest plane ticket you can from some little hole in the wall joint that has duct tape on the wings. Me, ill pay to fly commercial...
