yeah, there were quite a few '08s that they were practically giving away at carter, but I wanted the '09 kawi and unfortunately they weren't desperate to offload it.

Ya Price, lack of parts availability and high cost of parts, poor rear suspension, over heating, etc...

I didn't even look at the katooms. I almost bought a '06 ktm 450 a few months ago that had a bad crank. I found out the crank was like $700, plus seals, gaskets and whatever else needed to be replaced while in there, like bearings. I would have spent over a grand fixing just that one problem. the jap 4 have all sorts of parts availability and a crank could be had for $200.
Yeah, KTM allows you to buy them already tricked out how you like them, but with the money saved, I can just do it after the fact with the kawi.

tonight I installed HD tubes, since those oem ones will pinch in no time (BTW Justin, you and Matt are cock suckers for giving me that 4mm michelin tube! that thing took me like 20 minutes to get in the tire and the stem through!)

oh, and I've already got some spare wheels, bought a pair of wheels off a '07 for my sand tires. already mounted the spikey front tire to the rim

i guess we might have a little more of an "in" with parts, never had trouble getting stuff, the crank had a bad year, they were to be changed after 20 hours in '06s+ early '07s, we know piles of guys that never did the crank change and the bikes have raced for seasons already. We also know that 4 of 5 PRO Team bikes had trouble, the cuz's beeing the 1 survivor. I do alot of machine work for the Honda and yamaha guys here too, like fixing cases + carving the welds down from where they've closed em back up. more yammys than anything. Get into setting lash and the ktm will never change, ever, not all season, the honda is needing work every other weekend, suzuki's strip the threads from the top of the head.

As for the suspension, wtf? obviously the guys racing them are overtalented to be able to ride beyond the bikes shortcommings.
not recognizing that what they are dooing works is like saying that GMs engines are all crap cuz they havent followed into OHC junk.

Overheating is an issue if you are riding a race bike in the bush, on the track its been excellent, actually finished the national down east in mud that coated the rads where others shit the bed

etc...

to me owning a KTM is like owning some exotic porsche or ferrari. They are badass, but the second something goes wrong, or even basic maintenance is needed the $$$ is rediculous. Id rather have a badass mustang or camaro that would cost $200 and a case of beer to replace the clutch in instead of thousands like the cars mentioned above. Like I said, katooms are nice bikes, but the cost of ownership is a bit much for me...

brand new, $100 over invoice, financed as an auto loan, not a CC and a nice LOW rate.
It fires one easy kick, rides fucking awesome, quite a bit more hit than the 450s I have ridden. After my first wheelie going down the street, I have not been able to whipe the grin off my face. gonna set the sag tomorrow and ride saturday!
then the paddle is going on for dumont next weekend!

The bloke I bought my 07 CR250 from bought one of those KX450s and he loves that bike.

He lives 2820 miles north of me and where do you think he bought his bike from, 50 miles south of me.  :? :?

Where he lives there was no Kawasaki dealer ( is now ) so he got one from Victor Motorcycles, at Victor Harbour, it was the cheapest place to get it even with being transported 2870 miles north. :? :?

So the crate my bike came in has had a road trip of 3690 miles. :D

now... who can tell me how many bikes are in this picture?

Well there is obviously 5 bikes in the picture, if I am correct from front to back it goes like this.

1. 95 pw80, 2. Gen-3 badass trail/mx bike, 3. Gen-1 built dunes bike, 4. 09kx450f, 5. 05 klx 110.

So did I get that right.

BTW Danny the picture shows me what I was looking for in your Gen-3 build thread, hows that for luck, just don't lose that picture.
