I'll tag along on the coattails of this thread, just bought a 39 PWK from John. Any suggestions on baseline jetting for sea level here in Michigan? Have a DGN needle, was thinking something in the 50 pilot range and maybe a 172 main. I have leaner in both directions, but nothing richer on the main

PC pipe, GSS trail porting, that's about it.

we are pretty close to sea level out here but dry not humid. Im sittin at around a 50 pilot and 182 or 185 main with the dgn in the middle on my 41..

Is this a ported cylinder? If so who did the work?

Cool, thanks. Looks like I'm buying some richer mains.

dude, in %90 of cases a 50 pilot on a pwk is too rich. a mid 170's main should be good. sea level and its cold, maybe a 178 to keep it on the rich side.I would start w/ a 45 pilot

Far out. I bought a selection of pilots, including a 45 so I'll slap that in immediately. I don't have any richer mains than 170 though, I've got a 165 in the PJ on the bike right now and it seems to be happy. Sounds like that won't be the case on the PWK.

if your bike runs good on that 165 where you are at, I'm sure that 170 will do just fine

It is running fantastic on the main jet but it is way too lean off idle- I guess I need to change the pilot jet. Should I get a bigger one or smaller one?
Should I try a 45?

adjust the airscrew on the pilot you are on now and depending and where it ends up, use that to determine which pilot you go with. if you have to crank it all the way in, or like only a half turn out, go ahead and skip 45 and try a 48.
my gen-4 ran a little on the rich side w/ a 48 and at boulder city (>3000ft) I had to pull the airscrew out to 3 turns out to stop it from blubbering down low.
where are you setting the airscrew? some people seem to be under the impression that these are supposed to be 2 1/2 turns out, but you should aim for 1 1/2 turns out being in the confort zone.

It was real lean only 1/2 a turn out.

yeah, then I'd try a 48

Got my 39 from Sudco in, rode it at a friend's place yesterday.

It's kinda cool here, but my bike wouldn't even idle with a 45 in it. Tried a 52 and it's still on the lean side, stuck a 55 in there and it seems to be better. Still is a little soft from idle - 1/8 throttle, but it's liveable.

Overall it runs much, much better though, especially on the top end.
