How did everybody fail to mention the new Dodge auto built in japan? Asin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ai ... nsmissions The heavy duty trucks (4500 5500) come with a 180,000 mile warranty on the transmission. 3500 and 2500 have to special ordered or you get the crap tranny. Dodge is going to be the only manufacture of full size trucks with a standard tranny available in the 09' model year. I'm not a big fan of auto anyhow. I don't care how great they are if you really pull them they die.

cummins 6 w/ 6 speed manual it what I'm talkin' about!
and inline 6 makes more torque pound for pound than a v8, why do you think the big commercial motors aren't v8s?

Bottom line: if you want a nice well mannered diesel pickup buy a chevy. Rides nice has great power, good auto tranny, and over all the lightest diesel pickup made. If you want something that the dealer hates to see pulling up into a service bay buy a ford 6.0 or later. If you want a truck that tows awesome and your not afraid of a standard tranny buy a dodge. Of course there are lemons out of any group. Personally I wouldn't mind a Dodge or a Chevy/GMC or a clean 2002 or older ford 7.3. Absolutely not a 6.0 or later power stroke. Those are some of the most unreliable vehicles ever put on the road.

I had a friend who bought a brand new 6.0 f250 in 2004 and it died on his way home from the dealer. Blew a bunch of white smoke and wouldn't start.
The last time I dropped my f-150 off at the dealer, the guy infront of me in line had a 6.0 that kept coming back, and I actually heard the service manager tell him that there was sand in the pan from the casting process
those are junk!
Andy (hoofarted) has an '03 excursion with a 7.3 and he is having tranny issues, but loves the motor, he just got a BRP exhaust and a tuner and all sorts of stuff for it, says it hauls ballz.

Ya I love my 7.3 - unfortunately, I found the weak link: the 4R100 trans. It isnt a current D-Max, but I can haul 9 people and tow my 28' WW.dannygraves wrote:Andy (hoofarted) has an '03 excursion with a 7.3 and he is having tranny issues, but loves the motor, he just got a BRP exhaust and a tuner and all sorts of stuff for it, says it hauls ballz.
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

I have the same tranny in my F150 and its been good so far, the way to keep 'em alive is install an aftermarked valve body. I have a fatory tech valve body in mine and its been taking 500 rwtq and 400 horse for over 2 years now (and im not gentle...)

Ya - been wanting an upgraded VB - from BTS - supposed to be 'da shit. No more lagging shifts from slipping the TC. I hate that! But when 3-4 locks up, that truck moved! Will keep that in mind as I am looking for a reputable shop in my area to diagnose it. Stupid autozone scanner wont read tranny codes...ugh.britincali wrote:hoofarted wrote: Ya I love my 7.3 - unfortunately, I found the weak link: the 4R100 trans. .

dude - fluid is full. Did the full flush, new filter, etc. So now it doesnt wanna shift out of 1st until I get off the go pedal. Strange. On the way home, tranny temps started rising quickly to 200.dannygraves wrote:I'm serious dude, just put some more fluid in it and go!

It needs a teardown, take it to a shop before you break anything else.
IIRC there is some big C clip in these trannys that can break then they wont shift while under load.
