you also have to think, they were all seized at that torque rate from 40 years of abuse... each one let out a loud pop when I broke it loose, although sometimes the pop was another socket... the funny thing is, I broke a handfull of 15/16" sockets on that, and the only one that didn't break was a stanley, and it was also the cheapest, go figure :?

there is a reason they liked to use these motors in old boats, they were huge and heavy and very thick walled!

I practised today on an old one and as long as you have a decent drill bit and go slow it comes out alright.

I havent yet in fact I reuse my gaskets several times before tossing em I just spray each side with copper coat and let it dry before I reinstall it

corrosion isn't a big problem because of the thick-ass walls.

What size Reamer you need Brit? .375-.390? Millimeters are not going to help me here. Remember, your on the other side of the Pond.

Twist drill ain't gona get it, "One Slip and Down the Hole You'll Fall." -P F

I'll see if I can bring ya one Sunday.

Also I don't if its a good idea not having a shoulder on the new studs. OEM ones are designed like that for a reason. I wouldn't want the thread at the shank to put pressure, expanding the cylinder and cause it to crack there. Understand?

If you are talkin about the threads on the stud expanding on the lip of the barrel I dont think thats gonna be an issue as there is still a gap....

Ive also been wondering exactly what size to do the holes in the head and gasket, Ive been leaning towards 11mm (dont know what that is in inches)

Ya I kind thought that.

I'm just concerned about where the thread ends at the shoulder of the stud pressing against the thread inside the cylinder, possibly causing the cylinder to crack.

Maybe this is a none issue cause sometimes when the head comes off a couple of the studs are already loose.

11mm hmmm.... maybe .406 = 11/32"

Im not sure on the size but the hole has to be larger than the stud @ 10mm otherwise it would be a press fit

Got a mic to measure the new stud?

Guys the stud is tapered because its smaller on one side then the other. If you didnt taper and left a "step" you would have a HUGE stress riser...
