I had 2001, 2002 and 2003 CR250R's and they did not have the power jet carbs. The 04 CR250R that my friend just bought I beleive does have the jet.

my '02 neither, but bro's '04 4 sure has it. and altho he's lighter than me by 40lbs, my bike (both with no engine mods, but his with a fmf pipe is slower than me on my stocker) his maybee has a little more riding, and both got pistons fresh same week

hey dude what year is that 250 ignition/flywheel from??? any chance you could weigh the 250 and 500 flywheels and let me know what the weight difference is??

I was going to but I dont have a scale that wieghs in grams or ounces to show the difference. The size was a big difference but holding the 2 in my hands felt very close in weight. It's already put back together and I still need some female bullet connectors to finish it up...I did have the wife hold the wires together for me while I checked for spark and got a little shock so I know it works!

The entire ignition is from a 1990 CR250, other then the coil isnt the stock one, its a lighting coil from steahly! Only $115 too!

You take the CR 500 ignition off including the flywheel, and use the 250 stuff inculding the 250 flywheel. I don't know what the weight diff is 250 vs 500 flywheel but looking at them it's going to be pretty insignificant compared to the bottom end response you will get with the advanced timing down low. I have a feeling the curve on 90-01 CR 500's is a bit retarded at first for starting, then probably pretty flat at some point in the rpm's accross the board. The TRX 250r timing curve is at a flat 21 degrees accross the entire curve unlike the CR 250 it retards at a pretty low rpm for starting, then spikes up at a pretty high advance curve for bottom end, then starts to really retard in the upper midrange to top end for overrev. Just looking at the stator, it should just bolt right in. Use the 250 flywheel as well. I know on the TRX this alone picked up 3 HP on top, a overall broader power band and chripser throttle response. Probably have a bit easier starting as well.
I'm interested to know if the TRX250R stator and flywheel bolt up, since Ricky has a 200watt stator and you can get Dyna digital CDI's for them.

stock cr500 flywheel weighs 20.50 oz. i just weighed mine. who has a 250 flywheel?

I got everything...the flywheel, stator and CDI. This is all from the same year range too, the 89-92 CR250. (quoted)
ive never done this conversion before but have heard about doing it do i need all these parts or can i just plug in a CDI and go i have a 89' & 91' will the 89-92 250 parts work on my 89'

I used a '88 cdi on a '86 500 stator and flywheel.

stock 92 cr250 flywheel weighs 16.3 oz.
stock 91 cr500 flywheel weighs 20.5 oz
hey danny the coils are different. the 250 is much smaller. i assume it's ok to use the 500 coil.

yes, the 250 and 500 coils for '87+ are the same resistance.

packard told me yesterday the whole '01 cr250 setup works real sweet. anybody know what that '01 cr250 flywheel weighs ?

I've just fitted this set up. Had to machine the back of the stator plate to make it fit. So that dispels the myth that is a easy fit/straight swap!
As for the weight of the flywheel, i can tell you its noticably lighter. If i can borrow a flywheel puller this weekend, i'll take it off & weigh it for you.

I'm about to try the '03 cr250 setup
the back of the plate will need some grinding to fit, but everything else looks good. that 250 flywheel is pretty light, but also much smaller in diameter which will also greatly reduce the flywheel effect.

did honda have throttle reference in the '03, or started '04? and something else to throw out there, I had to enlarge the step in my '88 ignition to slip it into my '86 engine. I could have run the '86 setup, but didnt have time to change the cdi bracate.

TPS started in '04. so '03 is probably the last year you could run without running the 250 carb too.

sweet man. did you find the whole system on ebay from a blown up bike or what ? was the stator machining easy for a machine shop or who did it ? definatly weigh the 250 and 500 flywheels because i wanted to know this answer for a long time
