TJC510s gen 4 AF conversion
Looking good.
Hey, I have a brand new '01 CR250 boot that I'll trade you for your '00 CR250 boot. I dry fit it (no glue) and don't care for the fit of it on my Gen 3 CR250 based AF and wouldn't mind trying the '00 boot.
PM or email me at hrcracing@bellsouth.net if you want an even trade (i.e., I pay to ship to you and vise versa).
Thanks.

Let me know if you decide to sell it. It's not a length issue on my bike, it's more the angle of the boot as it attaches to the carb.TJC510 wrote:the 00 air boot is just a hair under 6 7/8". i guess there is no real difference in length then. i guess ill try to use this one.
I've got a '98 boot ordered but like your's, it's back ordered.
i probably wont sell this one, unless i find something else to work better. the angle is not the greatest with this boot either. with the carb and air boot on "straight" the air boot in not parallel to the front of the air box. im kinda thinking about fabbing the front of the air box out of aluminum to reach the boot without streching it and to meet at the right angle.
id like to know how a 02-on boot fits...

The '02 on boot is a flush mount versus the double lip design of the prior years. I have a new '02 boot and it's maybe a tad bit longer but probably not enough to make a difference.TJC510 wrote:i probably wont sell this one, unless i find something else to work better. the angle is not the greatest with this boot either. with the carb and air boot on "straight" the air boot in not parallel to the front of the air box. im kinda thinking about fabbing the front of the air box out of aluminum to reach the boot without streching it and to meet at the right angle.

On my Gen 3 250, it's a good allignment but, again, it's a flush mount and not really appreciably longer. If I wasn't so anal about using a double-lip boot, this one would definitely work.
You have to modify the box to accept the '01 and prior steel filter base and earlier double-lip boot.2weelz wrote:Does the '98 boot bolt up to your gen 3 box?
I'm not really diggin' the fit of the '98 boot but I'm tired of waiting to fire this thing up so I'm going to use it until I get a '00 boot.
If the '00 isn't a better fit, I'll stick with the '98.
Cut out the box right inside of the bead that's used to allign the flush mount boot then use a Dremel tool to remove the bead. You then just have to drill out the screw nubs.

I failed to mention, in my 4th gen build, that I'm running a reed cage spacer. I totally forgot about it. I run an 88 reed cage for more low end and it requires a spacer to fit in the cylinder. My intake boot is still 89 up with the rubber ears cut off because the 88 cage uses a stuffer. That's all you need for the 00 boot to work.
i finely got my X tank i won on ebay, brand fricken new for $56 shipped
head stay is done, air box is done, just waiting for the paint to dry so i can put the air boot on and stretch to fit.
CDI is mounted in stock CRF position, wires lengthened the 1" needed.
all my pipes are modified, the FMF gnarly fits like shit. it almost hits the spring. i probably won't ever use it anyway.
i was putting the plastic on and ran into a snag, i had to move the front mount on the right side panel to fit the 06 panel. we were having problems getting it to stay in place while welding it up, but it must have moved and i never checked it since then. it was about 1/2" off, so i had to cut it off and ill run down tomorrow and weld it up.
i was aiming to get it done tonight, its suppost to be 40 tomorrow , and i want to tear up some snow. i guess ill have to wait till tomorrow to finish it up. ill post some pics tomorrow.
