got the crank back from str today, looks really nice, no hammered on tins
my camera died so no pics right now, but 1 balancing weight is almost perfect opposite of the crank pin, and the other side is really close to the crank pin, less than 90 degrees
the big end is nice and tight at 15-16 thou sideplay
but ill have to ride it to say 100%

got my stuff from roosty today, wow looks nice cant wait to get it put together
pics coming soon, but the best part isnt gonna get shown
should be riding saturday or sunday go pro ride report then
how long do you think i should break it in for roosty? im thinking let it warm up ride slow for 10 min then see what it can do (after a wfo plug test)

ride it arround a bit and make sure its not clacking on the needle, I ran mine for about 10 min making sure it was warm, then hit the road with 2 other 500s beside me tapped in 5th
stopped and raised the needle, messed with the airscrew and made it better.
A pitstop back by the yard a few hours later i put less pilot and less main in it. havent needed to screw with it since.

ended up finding a woodruff key at napa which is the right thickness, was too tall so i filed it to fit, slap it together and 5 primer kicks then fired right up 1st kick.... trailtech says it idles at 2000 rpm, can get it to go as low as 1100, which is really slow

decomp works good
tusk crank installer is the only way i will ever install a crank, works sweet

go riding and so far it pulls harder down low and seems to rev higher (havent rode for 3-4 weeks hard to compare)
im gonna need to ride on dirt where i know what it does to say how much harder it pulls, it pulls harder tho for sure tho

vibrates about the same down low and less from mid up, wasnt huge, wasnt paying atention what it was doing too much tho

did a wfo plug test, cardboard brown, wanted to go a little richer but intelajet was already full rich
so i go ripping up this really hardpack/ploughed forest road no clutching just to see how it pulls, and i figure ill take the trail down....
after im past the point of going back i figure out the snow is up to my knees and perfect packing snow, rolls a snowball out of your front tire till it stops turning
almost get stuck goin down the steep part, then i gotta go over flat ground
so i gotta dump the clutch in 3rd or 4th and push, move a foot, back up a foot, repeat till im overheating, throw some snow on motor, push back till temps are under 200f and repeat......... halfway to the road and its getting dark, good thing i carry a led flashlight
6:30 its dark and i lost the flashlight and ran out of gas, 50 ft from the ploughed road (odo says 6.7 miles), its 2 miles to my truck
ya it sucked, almost got the truck stuck too

at 8:30 i just got on the highway

im gonna keep outa the deep snow when im by myself, it coulda been a lot worse

the trailtech shift lights are sweet, i think i was shifting too late before, i still do now just to see the light

heres some info from the trailtech
max speed 45 mph
total distance 6.7 miles
running time 1:45
max rpm 9270
max temp 266f  lost some engine ice there, overflow bottle is getting put on now

i get home and i find a piece of tape with something in it, i do that when i dont want to lose something important
well i think found where it goes :bash: part # 10

Image

i really hope its just under the clutch cover and not in the tranny

got some vids i might put up later

ya its just the clutch cover i gotta pull, unless theres one of those in the tranny

reason #1 to not work on a bike after a all nighter

and i heard some weird noises, im looking at it and i forgot to bolt the pipe down at the front, hopefully attaching it helps cut vibes even more

wow sounds like your kinda on the fence about how
much better it is than your stock mill. i expected
something more like this: "holy fawkin shit batman,
this is a fast mother fawker. twisted the handle in 3rd gear
and the extra trq damn near broke the chain in half so
i twisted it farther and the wheel was spinning so fast
in almost melted the tire knobs. then i clicked to
5th and my eye brows were peeled right off as
i roared down the road with 30' of roost bellowing
from the back end"

Unless running professional studded tires, on bare clean swept ice like in an ice race, the change in power will never be felt on ice and snow.

Its not like he had it in the dunes ansd could load the motor.

Clyde have you ever driven your car in snow or ice?

oh, and 9270 RPM is impressive, considering I have not seen more than 8700 on any CR500 motor I owned, even with the exhuast port raised 3mm.
Chris.... yours its trail and torque ported right?

no

im either in snow up to the rads, or on a gravel road that was ploughed a while back then it snowed now its a sled trail, ive never rode in those conditions before so i really cant tell wtf is going on other than im spinning like crazy

and i havent rode for a month...

and my bolt tire is completly rounded so its got no grip even on ice
it is definatly better for sure, how much? im gonna need some traction to say ...
havent screwed with jetting yet either

and my pipe is rubbing my frame so im gonna need to fix that before i can decide how much better the crank balancing is

roosty did you raise the exauhst?
anyone else got a tach? #s?
pipe is mangled even worse than before, should gain a bit with one that flows
Its not like he had it in the dunes and could load the motor.
it was definatly loaded, but 4th at 8000rpm going walking pace isnt gonna tell me very much

ill get some more video today, yesterdays was useless

The engine is NOT loaded when the tire is spinning 80 mph and the bike is not moving.... thats free revving basically

Loading the motor as in like a dyno when testing what it will pull in a tall gear.
Loaded as in when you are a gear taller than you should be, with too much traction to pull the gear, like climbing a hill at 3000 rpm and it will not rev out, clutching to keep it on the pipe, or continually downshifting, or pulling full throttle all it can rev is like 6000 rpm orto the torque / hp peak.

yes ~8300 rpm stock set up lean, and 8700 on one of the motors I set up for RPM... that was a stretch too

Get a pipe for that bike, how can one even compare with a crushed pipe.

when the snow melts I break in both bikes I have.
One is Adams TWIRP, the other has very mild exhaust and head work, both fresh engines from Adam.
Same reeds, same pipes, same carbs... everything the same but porting, compression and piston.

I'll even gear them the same, video and time 1/8 mile drags... hows that sound?
I'll test them both myself independantly.
I don't think the owner is ready to ride a built CR500 WFO for the very first time on a bike bigger than a 250

9270rpm seems like it would be extremely far into the back side of the power curve ?

it is, but if roosty didnt raise the exhaust port so thats gotta mean something
Get a pipe for that bike, how can one even compare with a crushed pipe
pipe was crushed before... new gnarly on its way

found a 400 ft stretch or gravel road without snow or ice, when it hooks up it pulls crazy, its also got a really heavy tire on...
still not much for traction

the weekend after next ill be going to kamloops if the snow is melted, and theres a big gravel hill that i had to shift down to 3rd, well see if it can pull 4th

can tell the mid range jetting is off, ill figure it out next weekend

i seen some real good info on a site regarding
useable power range and over rev. i think its
debatable how many rpm past the peak is
considered to be useable, of course it would
also depend on the curve of that particular engine.
if your running 2,500rpm down the back side
youll get left in the dust in a drag race because
the guy your racing will click to the next higher
gear and be in the middle of the upward power curve.
on the other hand the extra 2500rpm may be usefull for hillclimbing

Over rev will also help u clear a jump when you should have upshifted but didn't have time...

if your into motocross then yes over rev would be good for jumps

heres another in 4th somewhere between 4500 and 5000 i punch it with NO leaning, pulling anything except throttle
Image

before it wouldnt lift the front at that low rpm without help, jetting is still off too...

You gotta stop trying to record your tac readings while simultaneously pulling snow wheelies...

Duh, its in the wheelie hand book page friggin 1...
