On the street bike billet baskets are quite common on big HP bikes, bu the hub is still stock, I don't know of any billet hubs.
I think the concern is blown baskets from shock loading, not notching so much.
I think the 93 era cr250 uses the same clutch components,
not 100% sure though....been a decade since i cross referenced those parts from 250 to 500.

hinson makes an inner hub for 92-2007 cr250s

A friction and steels kit for the 94-06 CR250 and a late model 500 are the same, but so is the kit for the CRF450, so that part is no problem, now the question lies will a cr250 hub work?

actually the 2 middle metal plates of those year cr250 were thinner than the other 5 when using honda plates, i know because ive had a '04 oem clutch apart. honestly i dont think hinson or barnett has very acurate info when you start cross referencing it to honda micro phise.

That may be so, but we havnt had a single kit come back? My guess is the aftermarket kits have some sort of compromise in the design that allows them to work across a few different models, which is pretty common in the aftermarket...

yes alot of times aftermarket companies try to fudge things and make stuff fit as many models as possible. hinsons kit i believe uses all 7 plates the same thickness. barnett kit does have the thinner plates, but i think their info is incorrect as its listed for '97-'07 which is not correct when compared to honda phish. my 250 knowledge is limited but i did learn a few things in the brief time i had mine.

im wondering if an ENTIRE 250 clutch -the ring gear will bolt right up???
if so that will simplify it a lot

crank gear and i think ring gear different teeth on a 250. wish i would looked more close at the 250 hub when i had mine apart. be cool simply because hinson billet might be a option.

Which would be very valuable info, if it mattered... hahaha
We are talking about hubs, son, the basket is available...

somebody around here has to have a 250 hub laying around. only takes a moment to find out if it would work. and i know what we are talking about, 2strokeforever asked about 250 ring gear. obviously it must be different becausee the crank gear is different number of teeth.

Oh yeah, forgot about that...im a dick...
But not necessary to convert the whole setup since the clutch disks are the same...

i think i got it now, i know the 250 ring gear is different, but the rest should be the same... i think...

Why would you do that anyways? Im confused...
You can use a CR/CRF clutch in a friggin KTM (no, really, no BS) so why use a 250 outer when the 500 is available? You need only worry about the 250 hub...

because my kawi dealer has a honda cr 250 barnett basket that they are tring to get rid of... so i can prolly get it cheap because its been there for 2 years
and im pretty sure barnet dosent make a 500 basket, and im pretty sure stainless fingers wont grove as easy as aluminum, no matter what you do to the aluminum
quote from someone, cant remember who tho
The the primary gear on the 250 is 21 teeth, on the 500 it is 25 teeth - I assume you would use the large basket mounted primary gear from the 500 on the new basket - you used the Barnett basket, #321-35-01004, which covers the 250 from 92-07, Plus the 450f from 03-08????????????????
Yes, I'm doing everything you described (500 big outer gear). I'm running all 500 stuff except for the 250 kick start gear (small pressed in gear). It meshes up with the idler gear since it has has the same number of teeth as the 500 gear. The difference of the 500 and 250 gears is the pattern that presses into the basket and the teeth that mesh into the idler gear have a little more meat on the tips but the pitch seems correct. Again the same number of teeth as the 500 gear so it seems ok. It doesn't bind or seem forced at all, nor is there any excess play.

You will have to track down the OEM too so I hope you factored that into the cost...

just came across a great quote while looking for moose airfilters
I won't touch a Twin Air because I don't like catastrophic engine failures

everything got of track. the only part you would want to use is something like a billet 250 hub and possibly pressure plate, assuming they fit, but we dont know if they fit... atleast i dont know. no reason to try and use any other 250 parts. even at that you can look at a 10yo stock hub and theres minimal grooving so billet really aint necesarry. basket always grooves quicker and even then it takes many years to happen even with cheesy stocker. 50shot of nos would probly tear up parts fast but honda parts are more than adeqaute for everyone else.

Sorry, but you are dreamin...
My CR250 is already heavily notched and the bike didnt even have boot wear when I bought it. Its just now broken TEN hours. Quite a bit less than your "many years"...
I have more than one friend I know personally that can show you baskets and hubs with only double digit hours that are notched enough to cause issues with disengagement...

put a rekluse pro in it and live happilly ever after
No substitute for a PROPERLY set up rekluse on a CR5.
I have a stormin normin billet basket that doesn't have a hint of notching got it in 01. I haven't ridden as much as I used to in the last ten years.

Yeah those are bad ass but they cause a huge increase in flywheel. Which if thats what you are looking for its a great idea. But my buddy Chris (Tucker Rocky Rep) tried one, I did the prep on the basket and he had his dad install it. It was heavy enough to effect cornering a bit but did increase traction quite a bit. He is an top A class and one of the fastest local racers here so he knows what hes talking about...
So its a great alternative for some, but not all...
