Suzuki RGV rear wheel fitted to 99 CR-AF500

I've been wanting to do this for ages,
so with a long weekend up the sleave i got stuck into it.
These wheels were from a traded in WRF-450 some years ago and i had always kept them for the off chance i'd ever do a Yammy motard.....

The Yamaha spacers all matched to the CR swing arm i only needed to machine off 4mm from inside the Cush-drive bearing retainer and bearing to bearing spacer.
I still have to centalise the brake mount housing, this should be quite simple considering ive got 4mm of play to use.

Cool man.
I'm a fan of the hooligan mod myself.

Does your front mag have a 320mm disc?
If it does, all you need is a sumo caliper remount bracket.

Good to see you kept the cush drive (seem people weld the flange to the hub)....makes a huge difference in minimizing chain slap.

yeh, it is a 320.....i'm not sure what type of rotor it is R1-R6, it aint suzki GSXR or RGV...

At least your front mag has a flat rotor.
The F4 Honda wheels I've used needed the rotor pad milled down...... so the dished disc would clear the upper fork leg.

Hope the front goes as easy as the rear did.

Looks great so far.

i got a heap of slicks and production race tyres from the Aussie super bike series we had hear in hidden valley Darwin last week, so i can go for a fatter GP look tyre. :twisted:

You have probably already sorted it by now, but just incase you have not, I reckon it looks like a GSXR 1000 or 600 disk as it looks identical to what I have fitted to mine.
Had to make a 4 or 5mm spacer plate and then take 2mm off my disk circumfrence and believe it or not, but my Yam WR450 motard 4 pot calliper bolted straight up to the CR fork leg! (Sweet!) :shock:

Is yours Motarded yet?

I built my G1 for "every fucking thing"
moto X, enduro, flat track, social, Drags (yes Scott i'm in next time you take your 500 down the 1/4 mile & motard, all with a simple change of rim'e and spacers.

This is a GSXR 1000 front disk off a K4 or K5. I am sure the 600 disks are the same.[/img]

This is obviously a pic of the set up on the steely but have just fitted the same set up to the Gen 1. All good!

That swing arm is Agrade MX porn.....iv'e got a spare and i'm doing the same as you...fuck that looks fast just siting there. :twisted:

No need to on the Gen 1 if you're using a Yamaha caliper as the mounting holes are the same! :shock:

Just had to machine the disk down 5mm off the total Circumfrence because it was touching the back of the caliper but all is good now!

You will probably need some spacers to space caliper from the fork leg (Mine worked out to 4mm).

Will take some pics over the weekend and post em up for ya.

The one pictured above was actually shortened 50mm to try and help it turn quicker but all it did was turn it into a wheel stand crowd pleaser! :D :D :D

With the Gen 1, I am looking to drop lap times and keeping the front wheel on the ground has to be worth at least a second a lap? :roll:

So I have been sufring the interweb looking for swing arms to copy. (May have been easier to fit one out of another bike but I have just machined up all the spacers and brake locater gusset for the RGV rear caliper aswell, so I will just brace the Gen 1 swing arm and try that.

The bike is producing a little over 60HP at the rear wheel and I figure with a swing arm that long and big sticky tyres on it, bracing is a must? (Even if it is not, it still looks sweet!)

Thinking a bit more about your disk, it may well not be a GSXR disk as you have it bolted up using the existing holes?
To fit mine, I had to re-drill mounting holes to fit the RGV wheel.
Also put a 5mm "Top hat" spacer behind the disk to mount it out a little further.

The pics below are for the Gen 1 fork and brake set up.
4mm spacer between fork leg mounting holes and caliper but other than that the caliper bolts straight up with no adapter plate required!

As I said before the disk is now 315mm instead of the original 320mm, but that makes stuff all diff!

My Gen 1 frame and forks are a 97 model (Don't know if they changed in 98 & 99?

The pics below were of the adaptor bracket for the steely and a shit load of work went into milling up that bracket and cost me about $200!

Rgv rear caliper mount will be welded in this week and then hopefully start with the bracing of the swing arm next week some time.

We've got a ride day coming up in August it needs to be ready by, so the pressure is on! :shock:

The front caliper was from my 04 Yamaha wr450 motard kit which is a 4 piston Braking caliper and I believe that Casons Imports (Sydney?) still had a few on the shelf due to there being some issues with that particular caliper leaking from the centre joint.

When I made some enquiries about getting another for a spare they told me they would sell one to me with no warranty for around the $240 mark.(If I remember correctly?) :?

I spoke with a Brake company here in South Aus. that had seen this issue with the Braking caliper and he seemed to think he may be able to fix the issue if it occured but I just let it go due to the one I already have working fine and has great feel.

They may still have some? (Getting them to admit it was the hardest thing!)

Will post some more pics when all fitted up properly and tested!

Yeh i'm chasing the G1 conversion.
i'd love a good second hand caliper set up, mount & line to suit my existing rotor....it's all about keeping the cost's down.

Keeping costs down, now that I understand! :lol:

Just keep checking Ebay for a yamaha super motard brake set up and sooner or later they show up for not a bad dollar.

I also bought a 2 piston Braking caliper and radial mount master cylinder with braided line for $160 (Cheap!) only thing is that the feel of that particular caliper or master cylinder is too agressive so I don't use it much.

Yamaha went to the brembo 2 piston set up on their motard kits from 06 to 09 and they are the same bolt pattern as the 04 yammies. (I know because I've got an 09 WR450 which I swap the brakes to when the motard thing for the street gets into the blood! :twisted:

Keep checking Ebay motors USA as many bargins come up there that don't seem to get to our ebay? :?:

When I said I don't use it, that sale point did go through my head, so I'll have a think about it, but I'm generally a bit of a hoarder and don't let go of much (Need a bigger shed!) but will let you know if I do want to sell it.

Mean while I'll keep a look out for brake bits for ya.

Don't get conned into the cheap copies of brembo and the likes from over seas either cause they really are shit! :wink:
