G'day all X2
G'day all X2
G'day all,
Another bloody aussie on your site!!
Same as the other bloke that just posted, Ive been taking some info from your site and thought it was a good idea to say hi.
I had been looking to source a bike from the states but it was way to expensive so Ive decided to give a conversion a crack for myself.
I havnt started my project yet, its just a seedling in my head at the moment, im trying to source a sh#%ty CRF450 thats broken down so I can steal its frame.
I havnt even ridden a 500 as yet, just always loved the idea and Im a massive two stroke fan. Plus I wanna be able to say when Im older that I rode a 500!
The info on this site is easily the best I have found so far, so thanks guys.
BTW, names Al

Welcome aboard Al.
As I say, to many AUSSIES is not quite enough.
Just stick an ad in the paper asking for blown up CRF450, should get heaps of replies.

Ideal, that depends on what you want to do with it.
When you say more room, do you mean for the engine or yourself.
If you are tall, say 6' plus there are guys here who swear the CRF450 frame is better for room / comfort.
Then it comes to the ease of conversion, Shit take your pick, everyone seems to have an oppinion on which is better.
You would be better off asking these questions in the AF / beer can section so more poeple will read / asnswer them.
Some of these guys have built 3 or more of these AF bikes and know the ins and outs of these things.
Do that and see what happens.

Thanks for the welcome guys. This seems like a pretty good forum.
Ive been keeping a good eye on your progress shaggy aus (it looks bloody awesome!) and have decided that the CRF450 frame might be the way to go. Just depends on availability now.
Im living in canberra at the moment, just waiting for my defence contract to run out so I can move back to canberra.

If you do decide to do a Gen3 I know of a well price 03' CR250 (with a fully bombed engine that would be worth a fair bit) that would be good but its up here in Qld.
do it!... cos if you dont, youll spend the rest of your life thinking about it anyway!

Im from NE Victoria, place called Benalla, living in Canberra at the moment but looking to move back down to Vic as soon as I can get work. MORE IMPORTANTLY I just picked up my 98 cr500 from Melbourne. 500s in Aust are FU#$%ING expensive compared to what they are paying in the US, even with the exchange. I paid $4500 for my beast, its not in pristine condition but its not too bad either, got rec reg to so I can ride her in the bush without getting hastled. Just cant wait to go for a ride as I have just had shoulder surgury, STILL havnt ridden a 500 yet!

if there's one thing dad likes more than serenity… it's a two stroke engine on full throttle!
WTF, WOW now that is a great score, A brand new roller, you can't get any better than that.
Hell, do that right and it should look as good as the one shaggy aus did.
Where is it in the States or Aussieland?

Picked it up in Victoria, was absolutey sure one of you guys was going to start a bidding war with me . 4 grand Aussie seemed like a bloody good deal to me for something that hasn't even left the crate
Cheers

The only CRF450 frame I would use is the Gen3 02-04 because I really like the look of that frame, its looks similar to the Gen3 CR125 / 250.
The later 450 frame I don't like the look of or the radiator shrouds and fuel tank, but thats just how I feel.
Don't let that change your mind on your idea of the best AF conversion to suit you.
As alcrook26 said "all the way with a Gen3 CR250 frame" for me.
